Dietary Disaster

OK, not a disaster, but this "homeless" situation I am in is definitely not making for healthy eating.

Yesterday Mom made me bacon and eggs for my "going away" breaky. Which in and of itself is not a big deal...but I topped it off with a McD's fries & cheeseburger on the drive to Victoria and then a chicken teriyaki bento box for dinner....followed by yet another reduced fat egg-nog latte (it's a good thing egg-nog season is just about over because apparently I have an addiction) then a night of drinking.

Not too heavy on the drinking, but enough that I was dumb enough to think I needed a 1am pita. Argh.

At least it instilled extra water drinking in me!

Today I managed to just stick to a coffee misto with egg nog (although it's probably close to the same calorie count as the stupid reduced fat latte)...but I'm thinking about going to get another one because it's a 2 coffee kind of day and the friend I'm staying with doesn't even own a coffee maker (I know, what was I thinking when I chose to stay here?!!).

Our lunch was crazy high-calorie noodles though. I needed one final trip to Noodle Box before I leave town....even though I haven't been there in a year, apparently I felt it was a must-have today. So peanut sauce w/ coconut milk on a huge serving of noodles with shrimp, chicken & pork. I tried to fool myself by ordering extra greens in it, but who's kidding who? It's creamy creamy peanutty sauce!! At least it was huge and we probably won't bother with dinner. But there is that bag of chocolate almonds sitting on the counter taunting me....

I think I'll go to the store for ff yogurt, bananas, and Fibre Source bars to help me this week. If I can at least have healthy filling breakfasts, I won't feel too horrible about the wierd dinners that keep coming up. I have plans pretty much every night this week before I leave for my cross-country move...and I just can't focus on salad every time when all I really care about is visiting with my friends.

I suppose I should be using all of this blogging time to get outside and go for a walk, but...well, I don't want to!!! The exercise resolution can come into play on Tuesday with everyone else! :) Pin It

Friday Menu

Yesterday went almost exactly according to plan. There may have been one homemade chocolate peanut cluster, but I'm pretty proud that it was only one since the neighbor brought over a whole plate of baked goodies!

Today will be no different!

B = coffee w/ light egg nog, ff vanilla yogurt, Gala apple
S = Fibre Source bar
L = veggies w/ 2 tbsp dip, 1 oz cheese, 1 oz salami, pickles, handfull of multigrain Wheat Thins, 1 tbsp salmon cream cheese
D = turkey sammich (hopefully with steamed veggies)
S = something from the neighbor's yummy treat plate

Not as bad as it could have been!

As I had thought, I ate way too much over the last few days. It's the only time of year where I truly throw food-caution to the wind, so it doesn't bother me in the least. I actually didn't go as nuts as I thought, but there was definitely an overabundance of mindless nibbling and late-night chips & dip.

Mom's scale told me I'm up two pounds yesterday....but... A) who knows if her scale reads me the same way mine does, and B) I've eaten a bunch of salt that I normally wouldn't and had next to no water.

Starting today I'm aiming for back on track. I am not going to count points just yet, but now that I have gotten past the chips and dips, chocolates, and full fat egg nog I am actually looking forward to normal eating once again.

Today:

B = coffee w/ light egg nog, Fibre Source bar, ff vanilla yogurt, 1/2 banana
L = veggies & 2 tbsp dip, 1 oz cheddar cheese, 1 oz salami, handful of Multigrain Wheat Thins, pickles
S = mandarin orange
S = Gala apple
D = open faced turkey sammich with all the fixings (including brussel sprouts!) :)

Happy Holidays!

I just wanted to say that I'm going to take a short break from reporting my daily menus and health habits.... We all know that it's not going to be all OP and happy WW eating for the next few days so I don't figure you all want to read about that!

I will still watch portions, stick to the veggie tray instead of the cheese tray, drink my water and try to keep the chips and dips to a minimum. Having said that, I'm not depriving myself of anything....if I want a butter tart I'm having one dammit. :)

Merry Christmas to everyone!!!

L = grande reduced-fat egg nog latte & cheese dog from Orange Julius

Wednesday Moving Menu

Not sure why I'm even bothering to post this as it's so totally random!

B = was coffee w/ choc milk & whatever was left of the ff vanilla Activia yogurt (3 points if it was lucky)
S = random slice of ff cheese (1), then a Nanaimo bar while I was waiting for packer guy to finish up (2)
S = no lunch...no time.... Fibre Source bar while trying to coax poor kitty out from under hotel bed (2)
S = probably a banana so I don't starve before dinner (2)
D = oh who knows! I think I want Delicados (yummy Southwestern wrap thingy with chicken and veggies and chipotle sauce....drool) (10)
S = something while I chill in the hotel room (2)

Bye-Bye Scale!

I just realized....no more accurate weigh-ins until we move into the new house and they deliver our stuff. Interesting!!!

I can weigh myself at Mom's and I'm sure the hotel gym in Halifax probably has a scale, but they won't be accurate to my own so I don't know if it's even worth it.

Might be fun to just wait until Jan-21st and do it then.... oh, how scary!!!

Can you imagine? Christmas treats and dinners and appies and wine....oh my! Then no weigh-in to show me if I'm doing OK or not.

Odd. I've never been an avid scale watcher, but I like to do the weekly check-in just to make sure I'm not going way overboard. But now that I can't do it, I'm a little freaked.

This could be a good thing. hmmm....or maybe a bad thing. Hopefully it doesn't get ugly.

I guess it might help me to take it easy on the ripple chips n dip this year!! I hope so! Pin It

Tuesday Menu

OK, so it's officially Mother Hubbard's cupboards here. I cleaned out my fridge last night and either threw out the old stuff or gave the leftover condiments, dressings, and frozen stuff to a girlfriend. So today and tomorrow should be interesting menu wise.

B = coffee w/ choc milk, 2 x Nanaimo bar (haha) (6)
S = 2 x mandarin (1)
L = hashbrowns w/ a melted cheese slice, and this little Asian salad I grabbed at the store last night (7)
S = ff Activia vanilla yogurt (2)
D = Mexican rice casserole (I saved one from the freezer) (6)

Gingerbread Party

There was a fair bit of cheese last night. Yummy gourmet cheese. It would have been utterly ridiculous to turn it down. Oh, and bites and nibbles of candy as I built my Gingerbread House.

I don't care.

S = snacks n treats at the Gingerbread House party (6) Pin It

Saturday OK!

Well, I wasn't hungry for lunchtime so I skipped Subway. There was a piece of English Toffee from Rocky Mountain, but I deserved it for all of the walking around I did today....not to mention the MANY trips up and down the stairs to load the empties into my car.

Dinner out with my friend fell through, so I did end up falling victim to a Costco hot dog and fries, but since I didn't have lunch I don't feel too bad about it. Especially since I brought 3/4 of the fries home and will eat them tomorrow instead.

I'm quite proud of myself. And now I deserve a drink! Pin It

Saturday Menu Plan

If you read my other blog, you know my Saturday is JAM PACKED. I'm hoping that if I arm myself with a plan, I won't blow it with my eating....

B = ff vanilla Activia yogurt, 1/2 banana, sprinkled with crushed vanilla Mini Wheats (4)

Starbucks visit: instead of my holiday favorite of an egg nog latte, I plan to get a huge Christmas Blend regular coffee w/ skim and 1 brown sugar (1)

S = in my purse = 2 x mandarin (1)

L = likely Subway (6)

D = definitely eating out...I'm soooo not cooking! (10) Pin It

I did it!

I just had to post about it before I head to bed. I did it! I stayed OP and made good choices!!

It helps that it's Mother Hubbard's cupboard and I had tons to do around the house, but still....I did it!

I altered my menu a little. I didn't eat the soup at lunch time, so I had a double serving for a 4 point dinner instead. I was still hungry a couple of hours later, so made a dish of steamed frozen veggies for 1 point (instead of munching on random crackers and whatever was handy). While I cleaned out the cupboards and sorted through what needs to be eaten up or thrown out I decided to have a tiny serving of vanilla Mini Wheats...with skim milk for barely 2 points total.

And with all the running up and down the stairs tonight I'm sure there was at least 1 AP. LOL. Pin It

Friday Menu

B = coffee w/ light egg nog (1)
I know, I know. I really need to start eating breakfast again.

S = 2 x mandarin (1)

L = tuna w/ light mayo on Wasa, Healthy Request chicken noodle soup (5)

S = 1/2 banana, ff vanilla yogurt (2)

D = probably out....there is very little fresh food in the house. Either Wendy's for salad & baked potato, Subway, or maybe sushi from the grocery store again. (8-10)

other = drink with girlfriends - depending on dinner, either a Strongbow (5) or vodka/soda (2)

Our Holiday Dinner

Butchart Gardens were fabulous last night! How festive!! The carolers were particularly good this year, and I always get a laugh out of the 12 days of Christmas displays. The French Hens and Lords a Leaping are my favorites. We also enjoy how they light the bare trees to make them look red and gold and not so wintery and baren. The "flowing water" lights in the sunken garden are pretty damn cool too.

Dinner was super yummy, but by far the richest meal I've had in a while. Totally not point friendly by any stretch of the imagination...almost ridiculous really.

I had a White Russian while waiting to order. And bread. Then the seafood sampler appetizer (the sablefish chowder was soooo yummy). I chose the 6oz rib-eye with garlic mashed potatoes, asparagus, and truffle hollandaise....so rich! We had a fantastic (expensive!) bottle of wine too. We ordered dessert because it just seemed an appropriate way to end the meal, but it turned out to be huge so we only made it part way through (homemade mini cocoa donuts w/ chocolate ganache for dipping and a small Mexican hot chocolate....to. die. for.).

The good part is that I now feel satisfied to skip over any more ridiculous holiday meals until Christmas at Mom's. I've enjoyed some potatoes, some cheese, and some chocolate. I feel confident I can make it through til Christmas Eve now without much incident. I have a Gingerbread House building evening to get through and maybe a few good-bye drinks with friends, but those are totally doable in a reasonable way.

Plus, DBF is gone now, so eating salad for dinner isn't such a bad thing around the house! Pin It

Thursday, December 13, 2007

I'm starting to sound like a broken record. I can't stick to my menu plans!!!!

Last night I ended up eating a bowl of Lays potato chips for dinner. How ridiculous is that? I did have a minor NSV on the way home from Kickboxing though.... because I hadn't eaten a proper dinner I was starving, so instead of a drive-thru cheeseburger I stopped at the grocery store and got sushi instead (and only ate half of it)!

Today

B = coffee w/ light egg nog (1)
L = leftover sushi (5)
S = tuna w/ light mayo on Wasa (3)
D = we're eating out AGAIN!

Date night (because DBF is leaving tomorrow morning and we won't see each other again until we arrive in Halifax on Jan-5th): we're heading to Butchart Gardens for Christmas lights and such, then dinner in the yummy Dining Room.

And there will be wine....yummy, yummy wine. Pin It

Wednesday Menu

It's getting tough to make decent meals around here. Because of the move, we are trying to use up whatever we have in the cupboards, fridge or freezer. We can't take anything perishable with us (which sucks because I bet there's a couple hundred bucks worth of condiments, sauces, etc in our fridge) and there's no sense in taking opened boxes of cereal or rice and stuff.

B = coffee w/ light egg nog, ff vanilla yogurt, 1/2 banana, 1/4 cup All Bran (3)
L = DBF is bringing Quiznos (6)
S = 2 x mandarin (1)
D = leftover salad w/ low fat Italian, grilled chicken breast w/ teriyaki, 1/2 cup steamed rice (8)
S (post gym) = vanilla soy milk, 1/2 banana, 1 tsp pb (4)

A = kickboxing (6)

Tuesday Menu

So points-wise I think I was OK yesterday....however, healthy-wise I wasn't. Instead of the perogies and salad planned for dinner, I ate four of the chocolate haystack cookies I made for DBF. Same points, no nutrition. Boooo on me!

Today is tough because neighbor Jen and I are getting fish n chips. We've been planning it for months (literally, like 6 months!) and this is our last chance before I move. So I am doing it dammit!

B = coffee w/ light egg nog, All Bran bar (3)
S = mandarin (.5)
L = salad w/ light Italian, 1/2 banana w/ tsp pb (3)
S = mandarin (.5)
D = fish n chips (I'm just writing off the remaining 15 daily points....estimating this is way too hard!)

I'm not sure why I even bother posting my menus. I can't remember the last time that I actually stuck with my plans. I'll keep plugging away at it though.

B = coffee w/ light egg nog (1)
L = Campbell's Chicken Noodle soup, tuna sammich w/ light mayo on hearty flax bread (9)
S = chunk of extra old white cheddar (3)
D = 4 perogies w/ mushrooms, tossed salad w/ light Italian (6)
S = 2 mandarins (1)

20/22
I may have underestimated a few points, so we'll leave it at this.

No activity. Work is stupid busy...plus I missed Friday so I'm making up time by working late and skipping Kickboxing. Booooo! I'm aiming for a pile of water intake today though. Pin It

Weekend update

Haha, so I weighed myself this morning thinking "oh yaaieee....155lbs, I'm down!". Whoops....I guess my memory didn't serve me very well because last week I was 154.2lbs. Booooooooo!!

Doesn't surprise me though. My whole eating journey is totally buggered due to this move and the season. I know I'm accountable for what I jam in my mouth, but it's been tough. Really tough.

This weekend I thought I might be down because I basically didn't eat on Friday, and everything I ate on Thursday mostly got puked up. Sorry! TMI! Damn those Fireball shooters.....NEVER AGAIN. Stupid Navy party.

Saturday wasn't totally healthy but it was OP...and although yesterday wasn't great I figured I'd at least stay the same weight-wise.

Ah well, live and learn. I'm still right on the edge of my 5lb comfort zone so I won't cry just yet.

Thursday Menu Surprise

Uh-oh, tonight is DBF's work dinner & dance. Food totally unknown!!

B = coffee (mmmmm....Christmas Blend!), All Bran bar, ff vanilla yogurt, 1/2 banana (5)
L = leftover chicken breast, steamed brocolli (4)
D = completey unknown! I'm driving so the drinks will be minimal. I have 13 points to get me through. Hopefully there are lots of veggies and stuff to fill up on. I will avoid the bread and any sauces, but that's all I can figure thus far. yikes!

Tuesday is the new Friday

...or at least that's how yesterday afternoon-evening felt.

So close to OP, yet still so far!! Yesterday was busy with work and lots of phone calls in the afternoon, so I didn't get my salads in....or my snack of peaches. I did stick to one piece of pizza for lunch though so that's good.

DBF came home with two bottles of wine and before I'd even finished work for the day, there was a glass on my desk! I had two pieces of pizza for dinner....no salad. The dog got lots of pizza crust treats....it was definitely wanting to be Friday! I stuck to my plan of 1/3 of my cheesecake and I'm quite proud of that!! Pin It

Tuesday, December 04, 2007

Tuesday Menu

B = coffee, ff vanilla yogurt, 1/2 banana, 1/4 cup All Bran (3)

L = DBF bought pizza while I was out....so 1 piece of spinach pizza, tossed salad w/ ff Italian dressing (6)

S = canned peaches, Fibre Source bar (3)

D = TBD, but if I can get DBF to stop at the store it will be baked chicken, steamed brocolli & rice (6).... If not, it will be pizza & salad again (6)

S = tea, cheesecake (which he bought because we said we wanted to try it before we moved) I'll try to portion control it! (4)

A = walk the dog (2)

22/24 (because I'm sure the pizza/cheesecake is more points than I think) Pin It

Super yummy restaurant!

Yesterday went mostly according to plan...with two exceptions.

1) The weather was ass. Pounding rain. So no walking the dog. Which was fine anyway, because being my first day back to work, I didn't have time to get out. Boooo.

2) I caved in to dessert at dinner. But they were little fancy tasters, so I don't think the damage was toooooo bad.

The entire meal was amazing though. I decided on the warm beet salad instead of the mussels for an appy and it was excellent. I stayed with my scallop choice for the main meal and they were also great. Everyone said everything was fantastic. In fact, the best looking meal was the vegetarian option! We had three amazing bottles of wine (I only tried two)....and we drank sparkling water all night which is a nice treat. Dessert was a trio of tasters (all three barely big enough to make a whole dessert...perfect). I opted for the gourmet carrot cake, gingered crullers (so amazing!!) and hazelnut ice cream with chocolate mint ganache. Ah well, we work hard and we deserve it!! :) Pin It

Congratulations Curvy Girl!!

I just wanted to take a moment to congratulation you Lynn on your big day!! I wanted to send a shout out on the actual day, but I was flying home from Halifax and couldn't get to a computer.

Glad the snowy weather didn't interfere and everything went off without a hitch.

Now, go enjoy your honeymoon!!

Cheers and best wishes always! Pin It

Monday Menu

My work Xmas dinner is tonight, so it's a tough day to get back OP....but at least Flex reset for today so hopefully I can make it work.

B = coffee, All Bran bar, ff vanilla yogurt, 1/2 banana (5)

L = 1/2 cup leftover beef tortillini w/ tomato sauce, tossed salad w/ ff Italian (5)

S = 1/2 banana w/ 1 tsp peanut butter (2)

D = Christmas dinner at Rosemeade Dining Room. I'll probably have the mussels appy and the scallop dinner. I will stick to only 2 glasses of wine too...I'll enjoy some Perrier or something instead. Hopefully dessert doesn't rear it's head, but if it does maybe someone will share! (10 daily, 2 AP, plus 20 flex....I think that should be enough)

A = walk the dog (2)

24/24 (10/35 flex) Pin It

Home at last!!

Well, believe it or not, I'm only up .6lbs after this past week away. Utterly AMAZING! It feels like a lot more, and I think that's because of my lack of activity. My mid-section is definitely a lot softer these days and there was a new muffin-top over my good jeans which is why I thought I had definitely gained a lot. (Of course, I've been up three weeks in a row....so that would certainly explain it.) I'm happy to see that the weight remained manageable, and I vow to get in as much activity as I can between now and the big move.

You heard it here!! You folks have to hold me accountable to myself.

I WILL WALK THE DOG AS OFTEN AS POSSIBLE. I don't care if it snows or sleets or whatever (well, pounding rain I will not do). That's why I have a new Winter coat and mittens dammit. Besides, it'll be a whole lot colder in Halifax so I might as well get used to it.

I WILL GO TO EVERY KICKBOXING CLASS I CAN. There's only a few left available to me before I move, and I want that orange belt!

I WILL DO MY YOGA PODCAST AT LEAST TWICE A WEEK. My flexibility and toning has gone to poop, and I need to fix that.

Thanks everyone. It's good to be back home and back to routine (even if only for a few weeks). Pin It

Halifax is ugly on the food frontier

Travelling is bad for any sort of healthy eating. Yes, I have opportunity to be a good girl, but I just don't wanna. I have the best intentions when I set out, but alas, they don't seem to follow through.

I'm OK with it for now though.

I keep hoping for a salad but so far it hasn't happened. Tomorrow's not looking good either as we have a big surf n turf night out planned.

Maybe Friday.

Friday Bad Girl Menu

Poor DBF was soooo sick today. He just felt rotten all day and no amount of Gravol or anything would help. I felt like such a helpless nurse...couldn't really do anything for him.

My timetable was all out of whack today. I got up early, but didn't get straight to work because it's sort of a US holiday. I decided to start watching the What Not to Wear marathon, and worked from the couch until I couldn't sit like that anymore. Then I showered and sat at my desk, and wouldn't you believe it....I was so much more productive that way!

But, my eating timetable and plan was basically non-existant.

B = coffee, cashew bar (3)
L = leftover Chop Suey (3)
S = twizzlers (1)
S = Cheezies (5)
D = cream of mushroom soup, grilled cheese sandwich, ginger ale (12)

And I'm going to eat more Cheezies while I sit on the couch. DBF went back to bed and I'm bored. At least I know what I'm doing!! Pin It

Thursday Menu

We ate out again last night. There may have been a baked lasagna. It was soooo good. It was a comfort food sort of thing. I don't even want to know the points.

DBF may have snuck a bag of chocolate chip cookies into the shopping basket. I may not have stopped him. There may have been a mitfull of cookies with the tea last night.

This has got to stop!!

Today's plan:

B = tea, All Bran bar, apple (3)
L = tuna salad on whatever crackers are in the cupboard, Healthy Request chicken noodle soup (6)
S = tea, cashew bar (3)
D = Chop Suey from ESBM (6)
S = let's not kid ourselves....there will be more cookies! but this time I WILL LIMIT MYSELF TO TWO (4) Pin It

Wednesday Menu

We shall not mention yesterday's menu. It was raining. I was sick. I worked late. There were no groceries in the cupboard. We ate out....it was yummy, but it wasn't pretty. Oh, and there are officially no chocolate chip cookies left.

Today, I'm still sick...but at least the sun is shining for now....so maybe if I don't have to work past 5:00 today I might actually get some groceries and make us something healthy for din-din.

B = coffee (ya I know....but we had our house inspector dude coming today and I didn't have time) (1)
L = sunflower flax toast w/ pb & honey, Gala apple (7)
S = baked Tostitos w/ salsa (2)
D = TBD, but I'm hoping to make a Thai Pork Noodle dish & steamed veggies...(8-10)
S = popcorn (2) Pin It

Tagged!!

Wooohooo!!! I love it when I get tagged in these things....let's me know that one of you lovely readers is thinking of me! Weeeeeeeeeeee!!!

In this particular case, I was tagged on each of my blogs, so I am posting the same thing on each of them. So both girls get a couple of link tags...hehehe.... Thanks to Wheebles and Bri @ Skinnify!

Here are the rules (according to Bri there's only 5 things!):
Link to your tagger and post these rules on your blog. Share 5 facts about yourself on your blog (some random, some weird). Tag 5 people at the end of your post by leaving their names as well as links to their blogs and then let them know they are tagged by leaving a comment on their blog.

Things you might not know about me:

1) As I've gotten older I've developed a strange attraction to the color pink. Not pale, ballerina pink. But more like a fuschia sex-kitten pink. When I'm trying to decide colors, if that's an option it's a no brainer. I even see it in my mind's eye when I fantasize about my future wedding. I think it has a lot to do with too many episodes of Sex in the City.

2) I grew up an only child with a single parent. This makes me strangely independant, bossy, and anal about having things MY WAY. It makes for interesting living arrangements with other people. haha. But I wouldn't have it any other way because it also makes me best friends with my Mom.

3) I make bad jokes when I'm nervous or uncomfortable. Unfortunately I'm nowhere near as witty as Chandler Bing, otherwise that might be a cool thing.

4) I joined Weight Watchers because I was bored. I had recently started dating DBF and he had to go away for work for 2 months, so I decided to try "dieting" as something to do. Glad I learned that it's not just a hobby!! But at least my "hobby" has turned into a healthier lifestyle.

5) I like to work out to Bon Jovi and Guns n Roses. There's one CD at my kickboxing gym that I just love and it has Welcome to the Jungle on it. However, I would probably cringe if I had to listen to it under any other circumstance!

OK, there you have it. Now I am tagging Julie, Jen, Mouse, Mrs. Furious, and of course... The Duv. (YaYa, I know most of you have already done it, but you are the ones that I love...so that's just the way it is!) Pin It

Tuesday Thoughts and Menu

So last night there may have been some instant mashed potatoes and Bisquick biscuits with the chili....but I cut my chili portion way down so it wasn't so bad...honest!! However, those chocolate chip cookies that I'd been promising DBF may have made their way into my tummy with a cup of tea too.... :)

Oh well, today is a new day....

B = McD's sausage McMuffin (no egg) & hashbrown (DBF decided to surprise me!)
L = leftover chili
S = pear

I attest this to the fact that the scale was obviously falsely low last week.....and this weekend was a party-fest that ended with not the healthiest choices ever, too much booze, and not near enough water. Can we say dehydrated?!!

However, I wouldn't trade the amazing amounts of fun I had for any weight. It was all so TOTALLY WORTH IT!! Pin It

Birthday Update

OK, so I was totally right about the pizza...but you know, it was soooooo worth it. That pizza is so freaking good and we only have a month or so left to enjoy it. Halifax better have pizza that lives up to this stuff!! I got the Popeye's Revenge....spinach, leeks, feta...but don't let that fool you...I doubt it's any healthier than any other pizza because instead of tomato sauce there's an egg, garlic butter base. Whatever, it was soooo good!!

Lunch was a total write-off too. I chose to go for greasy spoon breakfast because it is so rare that we are in town at the right time to go to Floyd's Diner. I had a skillet of pan fried home fries mixed with scrambled eggs, bacon, cheese, green onions, etc. It's my fave there!

I didn't get my eggnog latte, but I did get a regular no-fat latte so that wasn't toooo bad. :)

Ha, and there might have been wine with the pizza......

I'll be good today I promise!! I've heard rumours that there is a dinner out tomorrow night so I'm sure that will be a points nightmare too...but at least there will be dancing to work that off....I think. :) Pin It

Birthday Menu

I DON'T KNOW!! Haha, that's right, cuz we're gonna be out all day and I haven't a clue where or what we will be eating. Although, apparently I'm getting a birthday celebration with dinner and such on Saturday so I will still TRY to be a good girl today.

I think I'll have a bowl of Corn Bran Squares w/ skim milk before we leave the house and maybe shove an apple in my purse. After our first meeting there will be time to kill so I think a coffee will be in order. Besides, I still have to get some work done and the best place for that is Serious Coffee with their free wireless access. I'll keep it to a regular coffee though because we are meeting a girlfriend later and I'm already anticipating an EggNog latte as my birthday treat!

Lunch could be anywhere. I'd try for sushi, but DBF don't do raw fish. Maybe a wrap from Delicado's...which isn't totally points friendly but I can make it work. Or maybe I can convince him to go for WonTon soup in Chinatown or something.

Dinner is what scares me. I won't be cooking as it's MY birthday....so I'll bet you a jillion billion million dollars that DBF orders us pizza. We only have one restaurant near our place, and they make the best pizza I've ever had....and DBF has been craving it since the minute he got off the plane from Halifax. They do have a veggie one I've been meaning to try so maybe now's my chance.

Anywho....you all have a great day and I'll catch up with all of your blogs and comments tomorrow! Pin It

Day One Accomplished

Yaiieeee...I made it through yesterday relatively unscathed. DBF came home from work early and brought a bag of crumpets with him. I hadn't had lunch yet though so I opted to have fewer Tostitos and eliminated the sour cream. We had yummy crumpets w/ light cheese whiz toasted in the oven with our decaf tea while watching TV in the evening. Yum!!! Pin It

WTF?

You are not going to believe this. I still don't.

I didn't weigh myself yesterday even though it was Monday, because I knew I was officially "restarting" today. So I just weighed in now....

And the f*&king scale says 151.4 lbs.

That's my lowest weight in weeks....months probably if I'm honest.

I chose 158 as my restart weight yesterday because last Monday I was 156 and then I had a crazy food-filled week with no exercise. I have been steadily gaining a pound or two a week for over a month so figured I was probably close in my 158 guesstimate.

I know I shouldn't complain about this fabulous number on the scale, but I DON'T GET IT.

Murphy's Law attacks again. I just forked out the $22 for online support and now someone is trying to tell me I don't need it. Well, I'm sticking with it anyway because that was my plan and I'm sure my scale is probably lying (even though I got the same number three times!). Pin It

There comes a time...

...when a girl just has to admit she needs help. You all knew it was coming. I even mentioned it the other day. So it wasn't as hard as I thought it would be. I didn't struggle for even a second. I don't feel bad or guilty or upset with myself. I don't feel like a failure. I just opened up that new Internet Explorer window, clicked on over to WeightWatchers.ca, and REJOINED.

Yup, for the next month I am accepting that I need help. Stress is not my friend and the online journal is good support for this girl.

Eight pounds over goal is not where I like to live. I say that two pounds a week is doable and I plan to do it! (I am, however, aware that my birthday and a bunch of weird Military moving stuff is going to get in my way....so as long as there is still a loss each week I won't beat myself up if it's not two pounds.)

My Christmas present to myself will be MAINTENANCE. Pin It

Monday Menu

Had to meet up with my bosses today, so skipped breakfast so I could enjoy a big reduced-fat EggNog latte at Starbucks. I did have a Fibre Source bar in the car, so not to worry I wasn't just sucking back coffee for sustinance today.

Funny how those lattes can fill you up though. After my meeting I went grocery shopping and ran a couple of errands, and wasn't even really hungry when I got home. Bizarre. I just ate the leftover boiled potato with a scoop of the cheese sauce and I'm fine (oh, and one diet pop cupcake). So far today my points are right about where they should be.

For dinner tonight I got the ingredients for a Rachel Ray recipe. Hungarian Stewed Beef with egg noodles. I have the No Yolks brand noodles so they are much healthier, and I'm going to substitute olive oil for a bit of the butter in the recipe so at least it will be a healthy oil. I will steam up a veggie to go with the dish too....probably cauliflower. I am also saving room for one beer with dinner.

Hopefully the munchies stay away so no desserts or snacks tonight.....but it is my last hurrah before getting back on the wagon in the morning so I won't feel guilty if something happens. :) Pin It

Sunday Menu

Starting to feel back to normal today, but have decided that Tuesday morning will be the re-start of my health journey. Might as well enjoy a few more days of off-the-wagon...and since it's a long weekend I get an extra day!!

Today I made pancakes for breaky...with an over-easy egg. Not too bad except I used butter on mine. I made a batch of diet pop cupcakes as treats too....so those will help out over the next few days.

For dinner tonight I'm planning some chicken breasts baked with olive oil, balsamic vinegar, garlic and herbs. With this I'll serve boiled Yukon Gold potatoes and steamed cauliflower I got from the farmer's market. I might even put together a cheese sauce with light cheddar.

There's a bag of chocolate chip cookies sitting in the cupboard calling to us too....so maybe those will make an appearance with some tea this evening.

All in all, not totally OP but not totally terrible either! Pin It

Saturday Menu

Not healthy, that's all I can say. After my long trek home, and not getting to bed until well after 1am I woke up feeling like I had a hangover. No drinking, but a long day on Friday. So I got DBF to take me to MyChosen Cafe for a yummy homestyle brunch. Hello BLT and onion rings!!!

I haven't planned anything for dinner and here it is almost that time. I'm not really feeling it and didn't get any groceries so maybe soup or something. Later on we plan to enjoy some red wine and yummy old cheddar, so maybe I'll just skip dinner.

Vegas Experience - Part Three

Ugh, yesterday was the longest day EVER!! Can we say "not enough sleep after long night of partying before travelling is not a good idea"? Yes, yes we can!!

Friday morning I managed to make myself wake-up and get to the exhibit hall with just enough time to grab some breaky before they put the continental buffet away. I went with a scoop of granola with skim milk and some fresh melon and strawberries. And water, lots of water. :)

I got a fair amount of exercise in too....going back and forth to our rooms a few times. I don't know if you've ever been to the Bellagio, but it's freaking massive. Fifteen minute walk just to get from the exhibit hall to the elevators...then another five minutes down the hall to the room. Then the same distance back....geesh, I don't even walk the dog for that long at home! (Note: wear comfortable shoes!)

I had to go to my partner's room to pick up my laptop and such after I had already walked all the way to the exhibit. I had left my stuff in his room when we went clubbing the night before and I guess it didn't occur to him that maybe he ought to bring it to the booth for me. Anyway, the walk was good for me and it meant I wasn't actively having to talk with clients. I stopped at the cafe on the way back and got a big non-fat latte....my brain thanked me for that!...but I was lured in by a chocolate croissant too. Willpower is sooooo not my friend when I'm hungover.

A little later in the day, there were huge soft pretzels put out at coffee time in the hall. I ate part of one, but it wasn't really all that great so I tossed it. I did eat my whole double chocolate cookie though...hmmmm, funny that eh? ;)

After we packed up our booth, we decided we wanted to finally try Olives for a late lunch, but wouldn't you know it....they close after lunch and we missed it by like five minutes. So instead we tried out the Buffet. I ended up sticking with a huge plate of salad, cold shrimp & cocktail sauce, and a couple of pieces of sushi. I really wanted to dive into the pasta and entree section, but honestly I didn't want to be full of that when we got on our plane.

At the airport I was excited to find a Starbucks right next to our gate that was serving Christmas drinks...so got myself a reduced-fat EggNog latte while we waited for them to change the wheel on our plane.

Our layover in Seattle was pretty long so I opted for some Ivar's clam chowder (I almost always get this when I'm in the Seattle airport because Seattle is the only place you can get it!) and there may have been some french fries too.

I'm so glad to be home and rested and back to the land of easier food choices. Not that my choices are going to be much better for the rest of this weekend, but come Tuesday morning I'm back on the wagon dammit!! Pin It

Vegas Experience - Part Two

Wow, did Thursday evening NOT turn out the way I had thought! That's the nature of Vegas I guess. :)

Dinner wound up being ham and scalloped potatoes at the cocktail party...with a few vodka/sodas of course. A couple of wedges of brie might have made it onto my plate too. Our clubbing plans were slightly waylaid by a couple of clients and other exhibitors....slightly....haha. I had a couple more drinks, but actually managed to get in three bottles of water over the night. No dancing to burn off anything though...booo. (See my other blog for details of the "dancing"...) Vegas Experience - Part One

HELLO FROM VEGAS!!

The trek here yesterday wasn't too bad...however we did stop at Chili's in the Seattle airport and they don't serve ANYTHING healthy. I settled on the Spinach & Artichoke Dip because I needed something a bit substantial, but it was completely unhealthy and honestly not very tasty. Good news was that I was able to walk away from it when I decided I didn't like it and didn't need any more of it. My margarita was really salty and too strong too.

I stuck with a small box of Junior Mints for the flight and avoided the drink cart altogether.

Last night we attended the opening night cocktail party for the convention. My drink of choice was vodka/soda (lowest point highball out there!!) and they had many food stations so I was happy to sea a seafood one. Fresh jumbo prawns and huge chunks of fresh crab meat...with an excellent seafood salad. All to die for! Later in the evening we opted for an Asian dinner of pork tenderloin and mixed veggies. So yum!! Followed by a few more vodka/sodas at one of the trendy lounges.

Today I was able to snag a fruit plate and tiny bowl of granola & skim milk for breakfast so that was a relief. For lunch I opted for a really good tuna salad sandwich and bottled water. I did have to try a treat from the European pastry shop though....everything looked so AMAZING!! It was totally worth it!! (I'm going to try to go back for photos after work tonight.)

Tonight we have another cocktail party (weeeee....free drinks again!), then I'm hoping to convince my partner that we should go to Todd English Olives for dinner. Later on we plan to find a club for some dancing and fun, so maybe I can work off some dinner.

I'm having fun with all of this (aside from how boring work is so far) but can't wait to get home and back into a routine with DBF. It will be nice to get to a couple of kickboxing classes and maybe convince him to start walking with me after work. I'm feeling out of shape and I DON"T LIKE IT! It is nice to have someone else to cook for now too....so my menu planning is getting pretty exciting.

I think I might re-sign up for WW Online just to get me through to Christmas. I can still do it without the major sign up fee and I think I need the control. Pin It

I've been caught...

...by my bad eating habits. Up 1.4 lbs today. OMG!! That's a lot for me, and since I've been up for a few weeks in a row, the number on the scale right now is NOT OK!!

Oh please let it be sodium from yesterday....pleeeeeease. I promise I'll be really good. Honest!

This week should prove interesting with DBF coming home tonight (wooohooooo!!!) and then heading off to Vegas for three days. Although I generally survive on coffee at the conventions, the lunches are almost impossible to get low point...and dinners, well when the boss is paying we tend to get a little over the top. Water and All Bran bars are going to be my best friends!! Pin It

Sunday no-Menu

I'm so not posting today's menu because you really don't want to know. I think there might have been some veggies in there, but I doubt they count when they are covered in sauce!!

However, I have run up and down my basement stairs about 157,000 times in the last two days so I figure there were a lot of extra activity points in there.

Thai Treat

Last night's dinner out was a great treat!! I was with some good girlfriends and we decided to check out The Little Thai Place that just opened up a new location.

It smelled sooooooooo good when we walked in. The place lacked a bit in the ambience department, but the room was brand new and you could see through to the kitchen and see that it was brand new and very clean and active. Small room with as many tables as they could fit in, with maybe too many lights, but once we were seated we didn't even notice.

The food was AWESOME!! We shared chicken pad thai (best I've ever had!), a sweet n sour beef dish w/ fresh pineapple, red curried chicken & veggies, steamed rice, and we each had one spring roll with excellent sweet chili dipping sauce. We also shared a jug of beer because Thai food is excellent with beer. Everything was soooo tasty....and it was a good thing there was four of us because there was a ton of food. We packed up leftovers for one of the boyfriends so that we would all quit picking at the plates.

To top it off, it was reasonably priced.... it was only $13.81 each. Can't beat that!! Pin It

No guilt!

Due to running late leaving, then my hair appointment running overtime my menu wasn't quite as planned, but it still worked out OK.

I missed my cantaloupe and All-Bran bar....so I was able to get chicken strips with my Wendy's baked potato and not feel bad about it. hehe! and I was running so far behind that I didn't stop at Starbucks for a hot drink, so no worries about that evil snack counter. Whew!!

I did have a couple of little treaties from the Halloween bowl, but only a couple instead of a giant mitfull of chocolate!!! I added up my points and everything fit within the day's allotment so I don't feel even a tinge of guilt.

However, I am glad that today is Halloween and I'll be handing out all of that sugary loot to the little kiddies....get it outta here!!! Pin It

Triumph!

I did it!! I made it through a whole day without Halloween chocolate and on-plan!! Wooohooooo!

I managed to stick to my meal plan, except that I swapped the apple for an All-Bran bar because I wanted a cookie with my afternoon coffee....and I forgot my soy milk for after gym, so I had popcorn at the end of the night instead.

I added up my points and actually came in a fair bit under because of my workout, so I could have technically had a treat or two, but decided that I'd come that far and didn't need it.

Nice!

One day down....let's try for another! Pin It

Weekend went bad...mostly

OK, fine, you caught me. The walk with the dog never happened...can't do that with wet hair. And there might have been a breakfast sandwich with that Starbucks latte on the drive up island. And yes, there was a second helping of Chinese food that night.....it was the best Chinese we've had in ages. But at least there was no secret Halloween candy binging while at Mom's house. See, something good!!

Today there was a banana for breakfast.... leftover Chinese for lunch (but only a small portion!)... and although I did manage to pass on any fast food stops on the way home, I did end up with another latte and a cookie from Starbucks. Note to self: don't go into Starbucks hungry!! I did stick to my plan for a point-friendly Mexican dinner though. So good!

I made a taco salad - shredded lettuce, diced tomato, diced avacado, scallions & finely shredded light cheddar. I topped this with salsa and served it with warm, seasoned refried beans and light sour cream. For some crunch I used a few baked Scoops as dippers. So yum!!!

And now I'm keeping myself busy so I'll stay away from that evil Halloween candy! I carved my jack-o-lantern and it's awesome. I might even do another one. See my "Devil Kitty" here. Pin It

Weekend Plan

I'm heading up island today to visit Mom (and her crazy shaved cat!) so the menu is a little out the window I think. I will do my best, but we generally order Chinese for girl's night in...and even if I behave myself the salt will probably kill me. I'll do my best though!!

This morning is starting off well so far. I'm heading out to walk the dog before taking him to daycare. I've planned an apple and a banana muffin for the car, and am treating myself to a yummy vanilla non-fat Starbucks latte. (I have a little problem with SB...I find it hard to make the drive without it!!)

I will be home early enough tomorrow to get out for another walk with the doggy and make a healthy dinner (I'm thinking Mexican because of all the blog-talk about it lately!). Oh, and I'm gonna carve my pumpkin, so that'll keep my hands busy and out of the treats. :)

Have a great weekend all! Pin It

Mom's Chili

This is always a hit and pretty hard to bugger up!

Mom's Chili

1 lb ground beef (lean, extra lean, whatever you like...ground turkey works too!)
1 tbsp olive oil
1 small onion, diced
2 cloves garlic, minced
1 can tomato soup
1/2 can water
1 can kidney beans (about 1 1/2 cups)
2 splashes vinegar (white is fine, I like balsamic)
1 tsp cayenne pepper or dried red chilies
4 tsp chili powder
1 tsp sugar
salt & pepper

Optional: canned diced tomatoes, corn, and/or if you like it spicy as all hell I have a friend that adds chipolte peppers to it.

You only need one pan. In a large skillet or frying pan sautee the onions and garlic in the olive oil. When translucent, add the beef. Cook until most of the pink is gone. Add the soup and water, stir. Add the kidney beans, stir. Add the seasonings, stir. Reduce to a simmer for about 10 mins. Done. :)

If you are adding the tomatoes, do it when you add the beans. If you are adding corn, do it right at the end. (I tend to just serve corn on the side and add what I like.)

Tastiest on day two. Yummy when topped with some shredded cheddar and/or sour cream. I like it with mashed potatoes too...but Mom always served it with roasted spuds.

This makes about 6 heaping 1-cup servings. Freezes awesome.

Down with Kimkins

There are a bazillion fad diets out there. Some work, some don't. Some are healthy, some aren't. I was never so overweight that I went looking for something drastic. I'm lucky I suppose. When I decided to lose a few pounds to help with my activity levels and overall health, I didn't shop around for a diet...I went straight to Weight Watchers because I knew that it wouldn't want me to do anything stupid. I knew it would just help me with calorie and portion control and educate me on healthier choices.

Unfortunately, not everyone works that way. Some people need to try different methods to find what works for them. Some people have been battling their weight for a long time and want something that will work fast because they are sick of the fight. I can only imagine the frustration.

Used properly a lot of those fad diet plans can work. Atkins, South Beach, Herbal Magic, whatever. As long as you go over these with your doctor, follow their orders and stick to the diet plans exactly, you will lose weight. You'll probably find that you have to take a lot of extra vitamins and supplements though, because none of those fads work within any proper health guidelines. And chances are, that once you hit your goal weight, you are going to have a hell of a time maintaining that lifestyle long term.

What truly pisses me off about those diets though is how the creators of such things prey on the folks that are looking for help. They go around declaring how fabulous they are, how healthy they are, how celebrities love them, how doctors endorse them...generally it's all a pile of crap. And they all know that they will be outted for the frauds they are eventually, but they'll try to rake in as much cash as they can before that happens. Nice.

Right now, the lying sack of crap that invented the Kimkins Diet is getting her ass sued off. She turned out to be the biggest fraud of them all. She claimed to have created a modified Atkins program on which she lost 198 pounds in only 11 months. The money hungry cow decided it would be great if she set up a website, marketed her plan, and bilked unsuspecting believers into buying into her bullshit "diet".

Turns out that this Heidi Diaz chick is actually morbidly obese...she used pictures from a Russian mailorder bride website as her after shots. Jesus, woman! It's one thing to lie about the program you created, it's a whole other thing that you haven't even lost any weight and claim to be some sort of health expert. You've managed to take it to the extreme level of fraud. Way to play on the insecurities and trust of others.

How can you live with yourself for generating cash by inflicting pain and suffering on innocent believers? It's truly disgusting. These poor people believed in you and you dished them a diet that brought them nothing but massive health problems....hair loss, heart palpitations, menstrual irregularities....because you convinced these folks that 500 calories a day was OK.

Glad to hear that 11 of your former followers are suing the shit out of you. I hope they take every penny you've earned from this revolting display of unprofessional conduct...and then some. I can't imagine that you will come out of this alive. Even if those 11 plaintiffs can't beat your ass, I'm sure Jessica Alba will be more than happy to come along and sue you for fraud and defamation of character.

How could you have possibly thought this was going to work out? How do you sleep at night?

Brutal. You are going down, bitch!
