Well, it's Monday so that must mean it's "restart" day. Seems to be a theme these last few weeks. Thankfully, even after my cocktail of sodium and sugar, the scale showed me staying the same this morning. I don't think I could have handled seeing a higher number so I am now motivated to kiss those Cheetos goodbye. Mojo is staying consistant so that is helping. I can handle him the way he is...even though I know he must be so freaking uncomfortable all the time...as long as he doesn't take a turn for the worse today I might be able to hold myself together. It's a work day for me today so maybe that distraction will help too.I am not planning my menu, but will check in tonight and let you know how the day went. There is a shortage of veggies in the house, but I think I have enough to get through the day. No gym today because of the holiday, but the rain has let up so I'll try to get out for a walk. I could use the fresh air anyway. Thanks for all of your support. Happy Natal Day! (or insert appropriate provincial holiday of your choice)
That's what I'm calling it. The cocktail of junk food that I consume when I am depressed or otherwise emotionally exhausted. Cheetos - salty carb groupMike n Ikes - fruity candy groupBridge Mix - chocolate satisfaction groupI make a little bowl of each and eat them until I have a tummy ache. It's a ridiculous ritual brought on over the years, but it's my ritual and aside from admitting it here I am not going to dwell on it. I'm soaking it down with a ton of water and will recover from it when the bag of Cheetos is empty. What I really want is to slather it all in KFC gravy, but I'll hold off on that particular sodium disaster....for now.
I'm exhausted. Don't know why I stayed up late last night...talking to my Mom about the dog and doing some puttering around the house. I always do that when I'm stressed...clean, bake, tidy...I'm such a girl. Then up early again to pick doggie up from overnight clinic and return him to our vet for day 3 of IV fluids. He needs to start eating dammit! Poor guy just can't seem to get better. No gymbo for me this morning...just too poopered to really do anything functional. Hopefully I burn through some work and get an afternoon nap in....then maybe hit the gym before I go get Mojo this evening (hopefully to bring him home, not to take him to the overnight clinic again). The lovely Miss Jennifer asked if I meal plan.... yup! For the most part anyway. I'm a shop-a-holic so I always have too much stuff in the house, so I at least plan each day in the morning...but if I have time I'll plan a week in advance....or at least a tenative plan anyway. Often (especially when DBF goes away) my plan is based on what needs to be used up. Generally it keeps me in line, and I have something to look forward to.Today's plan is this....- Bolthouse Berry Smoothie chugged from container- Starbucks double tall no-fat vanilla latte (I deserved this today!)- small ancient grains tortilla warmed with natural pb & honey- Source ff lemon yogurt with raspberries- another tortilla wrapped with light cream cheese, turkey & veggies- cucumber slices- strawberries- I gotta tell ya there may likely be another trip to SB for some afternoon caffeine- dinner is going to be a Smart Ones Santa Fe Beans & Rice....with salsa & light sour cream, and a handful of scoops.... plus salad if I have time.- evening snacks are grapes & a pb Sweet n Salty bar (if I can wait that long!)If I do find the energy for the gym, I think it's going to be mild cardio....treadmill and bike maybe...maybe a stint on the rowing machine. I'll let you know how it works out.
That's what I did this morning. 100 crunches, 100 squats, 100 calf exercises. In between my 60 minutes of cardio. 25 mins crosstrainer, 25 mins recumb bike, 10 min walk on the treadmill. Boy was I sweaty and poopered. This, of course, was after I got up at 6:30am to get ready and go get the dog from the overnight clinic, to bring him back to our vet for 8:00. Poor guy, still not feeling too hot at all. :(So since I was up and in the same plaza, I hit the gym, made a dentist appointment, did my banking, and went to the post office. All before 10:30am. Oh, and stopped at Walmart to return a book that I bought in error.I guess I should admit that I had McD's for dinner last night. I had to work late to make up for missing morning time...then had to pick the dog up to take him to the overnight clinic....so by then I was starving and the drive-thru was just the easiest way to go. I stuck with a cheeseburger and fries...with a diet Coke that I didn't drink (I hate that there are never any other diet choices...hello Sprite Zero people!). More points than I needed, but the fries were freaking awesome and it was a good comfort dinner. Plus I was hoping the dog would eat some fries, but no such luck...he's still not eating.Anyway, I'll try to make that my take-out meal for the week instead of the one I had planned for the weekend. I suppose it will depend on how things pan out with the puppy.Today's menu...started out eratic, but I'm under control...- 7am Starbucks coffee (note: NOT a latte, just a coffee...NSV!)- 10am All Bran bar (dying of hunger after gym, this was in my purse thank God)- 11am Source Lemon ff yogurt, fresh raspberries- 1pm leftover Chunky soup, crackers, real cheddar- cherries- spinach dip and cucumber slices- dinner will be the leftovers I didn't eat last night....honey chicken, brocolli, salad- milk & PB granola bar
I didn't get a chance to go to the gym last night. Our dog has just not been himself at all, so by the time I finished work yesterday I decided it was time for him to go to the vet. Poor guy....he won't eat and hardly drinks. Doctor thinks it could be anything from just a bacterial bug to cancer. He's back there today for some IV fluids. Hope he perks up! My evening was all out of whack because of the vet visit, but I still had my honey-soy chicken for dinner and it was pretty good. I didn't cook a couple of the kabobs long enough, but that was OK because it was close enough to just pull off the skewers and re-grill for tonight. Because I ate so late, I was still hungry though so ended up having a bowl of Kashi Crunch after dinner. This morning I was in a mad rush to get some work done before taking the boy in for his IV, so all I had for breaky was a granola bar. I did however go to the gym after I dropped him off since I was right there anyway and I needed to take my mind off of the possible bad news. I worked out without my iPod and I should really do it more often. I don't know why...maybe it's because I was working out some doggy aggression... but it was a great strength training session. Now I have a ton of work to make sure I get done. My menu is whatever is handy at the time....- Fibre Source granola bar- lotsa water- Chunky Prime Rib soup, with a piece of multigrain toast spread with light Laughing Cow- grapes- double tall vanilla no-fat latte- All Bran bar- leftover honey-soy chicken, steamed brocolli, and salad with chickpeas- cherries- homemade artichoke & spinach dip with cucumber slices when I get snacky later on
I walked the dog at lunch today....just as I used to do for a whole year, almost every day....and haven't done for like two months. Poor dog. I can't believe he hasn't mutinied on us yet. I mean, he's a house dog...but he loves walks and I basically cut him off cold turkey once I got into my gym groove. No more. I promise to take him out at least 3 times a week. It's good for him and it's good for me to get more exercise outside of the gym anyway. Doggy-walking love has returned! My gym time ended up being really late today. I slept in this morning (of course) because I stayed up too late (well, and because I hate mornings). Work was too busy to sneak off for two hours. So evening came and I decided that rather than do the yard work, I'd better get my butt to the gym. All the way there I kept telling myself that evening workouts suck...which of course it would have had I continued to tell myself that...so I snapped out of it, and told myself to get in there and run like it was morning!! It worked!! 25 minutes of the highest intensity I could pull off on the cross-trainer....followed by 20 minutes of hill training on the treadmill at the highest speed I could maintain. Add to that my full strength training routine, and you have one poopered girl! But a good poopered. The best part was that I was smart enough to prep my dinner before I left, so I had something to look forward to after my workout. Proteiny chicken goodness and crunchy, fresh slaw. Yum!!Oh, and I broke my goal of 50km travelled during the Summer Challenge. 53.3km as of today!!
