Shrimps on the Barbie

IMG_1508

That hammock pretty much sums up my Saturday. :)  Not that I didn’t get some things done (washed car, made breakfast cookies, whipped up some olive tapenade) but enjoying the sun was top on my priority list.

WIAT_Aug4

1. Coffeeeeee

2. Waffle with berries, cheesy scrambled eggs, ham.

3. Water, water, water…oh ya, water.

4. Lunch plate for 2: honey ham, smoked pepperoni, cukes, mushrooms, cheddar.

5. Hammock snacks: BBQ peanuts and blueberries.

6. Lime tortilla chips with salsa and cottage cheese.

7. Dinner plate for 2: olive tapenade, focaccia, veggies.

8. Watermelon and fresh basil.

On Sunday I wrangled Michael away from his ongoing household projects so we could load the dogs in the truck and take a nice long walk in the sun.  It was hot, sweaty and glorious…love the gorgeous weather!

WIAT_Aug5

1. Cottage cheese, non-fat yogurt, Raisin Bran, and blueberries.

2. Cherries and breakfast cookies.

3. Post-walk treats [unpictured]: small Tim Horton’s Iced Capp with chocolate milk (it’s lower cal and way tastier!  try it!) and 2 x lemon Timbits.

4. Focaccia with tapenade, ham and cucumbers.  BBQ peanuts on the side.

5. Grilled spot prawns, grilled zucchini, grilled mushrooms, and corn on the cob.

6. Movie treats: Peanut Butter M&M’s.

We finished the day by baking up a Peach-Blueberry Crisp and enjoying an air-conditioned movie.  The Dark Knight Rises did not disappoint.

Even thought today is a holiday here in BC, I’m spending a few hours sitting here in my jammies at Michael’s kitchen table doing some work for my regular job.  Nice to have a day off from my new office job though!  Lord knows more than a week of combing my hair and wearing real clothes was really wearing on me.  :)

Nothing wrong with eating Peach-Blueberry Crisp for breakfast either.

Happy BC Day!

T.G.I.Saturday.

Oh you guys.  It’s soooooo nice out here today.  Like so warm that I stepped out on the deck and started to sweat.  Amazing!

Of course for some reason I’ve spent my Saturday morning inside watching Olympics (Canada got a gold!), baking a batch of breakfast cookies, and sipping too much coffee.

Right after this post I’m making myself useful outside by washing my car.  Michael is painting out on the deck yet again.  That project is never ending!

WIAT_Aug3

Friday…

1. Coffee with almond milk, and water of course.

2. Kashi Honey Almond Flax with almond milk, banana, and blueberries.

3. Pre-pitted cherries for office snack (and dark chocolate for after lunch).

4. Salad of the week.

5. Pre-power walk carby goodness: sandwich thin with TJ’s almond butter.

6. Starbucks Tall Half-Sweet Green Tea Lemonade.

7. Protein shake.

8. Tide me over for late dinner: rice crackers and Laughing Cow.

9. Store-bought lasagna and steamed Brussels sprouts.

We spent our Friday evening chatting about our week and watching The Dark Knight (#2 don’tcha know) in preparation for finding time to hit up the final Batman movie this weekend.  Seems like some movie theatre air conditioning might be just the thing we crave!

Sunday Snackeroo

Apparently my plan for tracking my food/fitness this week has gone seriously astray.  All this nice weather made for some crazy ice creamy antics.  hehe.  Oh well, I’ll take fun in the sun with some treats over crappy weather and stringent tracking any day!!!

Yesterday we started out with breakfast at our fave little diner…The Armview.  We sat on the patio, and even though it was barely 10:15am it was already screeching hot.

I ordered the mushroom & cheese omelette with a side of bacon.  The side of bacon was like double-sized!  I didn’t eat it all…I was so hot food just wasn’t doing it for me…especially hot food with hot coffee!

After breakfast we went straight home to get painting again.  After completing the painting, I had a cool shower and went shopping.  Thank you SuperStore and Walmart for your fabulous air conditioning!

I got a tasty juice

042

Then ate the last of the homemade potato salad.

043

I had started a huge pot of coffee right before FH asked if I wanted to go for breakfast, so I added some brown sugar while it was still hot and put it in a jug in the fridge to chill.  Made the perfect iced coffee in the afternoon.  Just added skim milk.

044

Then enjoyed a bowl of fresh cherries.  Closer to BC cherries (by that I mean juicy, plump and yummmmy), but I think these were US and friggin expensive.

047

I kept waiting for the house to cool down, but that’s like waiting for Santa to arrive so eventually I gave in a made some dinner.  I really didn’t want to cook anything hot, but I decided one measly frying pan on the stovetop wouldn’t kill us.

FH bought these veggie burgers not too long ago, so I dug them out and thought I’d give them a try.  Sol Cuisine Original BurgerSoy based with few other ingredients.  Only 109 cals per patty and the patties were a decent size (and shaped like a flower!).

Certainly no substitute for a real meat patty.  I imagine that without my toppings and condiments these were actually pretty bland…and I found them a bit too mushy for my liking.  But in a pinch it was OK.

Served on a ww English muffin with marble cheddar, tomatoes, lettuce, mustard and ketchup.  A side of seared zucchini to complete the meal (just sliced and tossed in EVOO with s&p and cooked in the hot pan from the burger).

For dessert I broke into my new container of Lemon Liberte.  The thick, deeeelish Mediterranee kind.  Stirred up with the last of the fresh raspberries and blueberries.

And then the real fun began…

FH went out with a buddy to look at some cars…and asked if I wanted some ice cream.  Well of course!  Three days in a row please!  LOL.  They were going to DQ but it was so busy they went to Wendy’s instead.  They brought me a large Froster.  Yes, a LARGE.  I never order large anything.

But it was good.  and I ate the whole mother-effing thing.

Then while watching True Blood (OMG, don’t we all just lurve lurve lurve Erik…? *gushes) I got the munchies.  Instead of taking my body’s cue that I’m dehydrated and drinking more water, I cracked open the bag of Skinny Sticks I bought…and ate the WHOLE BAG. Maui Wowie oh my!

Went to bed with a food baby.  And a gain on the scale this morning.  Surprise!

Scorcher

Finally, a crazy hot day!!  Like melt into the ground, sweat just standing there, wicked hot and fantastic!  Wooooo.

As mentioned last night, today was painting day.  Probably not the best idea to tackle a huge project like that in 30 degree heat, but oh well!

It took WAY longer than we thought.  FH tackled the back deck, while I took to the front porch.  The spindles on the front stairs were a biatch!

IMG_3638

Started at 10am with a coffee and lots of water (and sunscreen!).

Around 11am snacked on the last of the fresh yellow plums.

IMG_3635

and an oatmeal raisin bar.

IMG_3641

At noon I needed an actual meal, so dished up some homemade potato salad (with a few pickles…I forgot to mention that I often put pickles in the salad but I left them out because FH isn’t a fan).

IMG_3645

More paint, paint, painting.  It took 4.5 hours just to finish the first coat!  I took a break for a cool shower and a trip to Home Depot for more paint and a ladder.  Made the obligatory stop at Starbucks for a much needed Iced Grande Vanilla Americano topped up with skim milk (OK, and a chocolate chip cookie…).

IMG_3646IMG_3647IMG_3650

Once home I worked on finishing up the second coat of white…thankfully the spindles only needed one coat!  Poor FH had to do two coats of white out back because this is the first time the deck has ever been painted.  At least he didn’t have the rounded spindles to deal with though.

Then finally it was time for the dark stain on the actual porch and stairs.  So much faster!!  Completed the first coat by about 6:45pm and called it a night.  We ended up needing more stain to complete all of the work…hopefully in a couple of hours tomorrow morning.  I’m very pleased with it so far!!

IMG_3658

After another shower and change of clothes, I finally had a proper meal.  Starving and hot, I opted for a bigass salad.

Look at the giant romaine…this is the one I got at the farmer’s market last weekend.  Still fresh, crisp, and perfect.  :)

IMG_3659

In the big bowl: romaine, carrots, celery, tomato, red onion, broccoli

IMG_3660

Added Ranch dressing, more potato salad, and the last leftover turkey sausage.  Great meal for a hot and exhausting day.

IMG_3661 IMG_3662

Now we’re enjoying the evening with Season Two of Mad Men on DVD (been waiting months for this!!) and an icy cold ice creamy treat… :)
