Rewind: Friday

IMG_0231

Friday ended up being a bit of a gong show.  The morning started off as planned…rise and shine nice and early, walk the doggies, coffee with Michael, and settling in for a nice morning of work on my laptop surrounded by the dogs.

Friday_morning_collageIMG_0235

Before packing up my stuff for the day I even found time to walk the dogs again and leave Michael a baked treat for his weekend.

IMG_1832

Of course I stole two of the cookies for the road.

IMG_1835

So glad I stole those cookies because after leaving his house to head up island to my Mom’s I made a wrong decision as far as which route to take and wound up stuck in long weekend traffic for over an hour.  I was starting to worry I was cooking poor Chibi it was sooooo hot in the car…and my AC picked right then to crap out.  Booooooo.

We finally hit the highway and got moving but I still decided to stop at the Malahat viewpoint for some fresh air and to let Chibi do some business.

Malahat_view_collage

And then we powered through for the next 1.25 hours to Mom’s house where I demanded immediate sustenance.  Hello Greek yogurt and berries!

IMG_1851

Earlier in the week I had asked Mom if we could skip our usual ‘girl’s-night-in Chinese take-out’ and eat a healthy dinner so she stocked up on lemon chicken, new potatoes and salad fixin’s.

Friday_dinner_collage

Mama grilled the chicken and boiled the spuds while I compiled the bigass salad full of mixed greens, cukes, tomatoes, green onions & cheddar.

After dinner she surprised me with an ice creamy treat!  The infamous Magnum ice cream bars.  nom nom.

IMG_1861

Quite deeeelish but you won’t catch me coughing up my hard earned piddly paycheque for these.  I’m not entirely sure how they decide ice cream prices but sometimes it’s a little crazy.

IMG_1862

After dinner we settled in for a cozy night in the living room with a movie and the doggies.  Mom’s new little man Buster is quite a cuddler.  I asked him to teach Chibi a few cuddling skills.

IMG_1871

I promptly fell asleep 30 minutes into our movie, so now I’ll never know what happened to poor Jake Gyllenhaal.  Sad.

Well yes...I did promise two posts yesterday but I'm sure you all survived when it didn't happen.  :)

So here's yesterday in a nutshell...

Coffee at my new desk...

IMG_8483

Breakfast on my now functioning dining table...

IMG_8484

Kashi Honey Almond Flax with vanilla soy milk, blueberries and banana.

IMG_8485

Trip to chiropractor which confirmed that it indeed my lower back/hips that are causing my pain.  He referred to my pura forma muscle?  I tried Googling that and obviously I'm spelling it incorrectly because I can't find a thing!  Something to do with how it connects with my sciatic and everything kind of wraps together in my bum and affects nerves all up and down my leg.  Yippee.  Not.

So I'll go back to him tomorrow and keep working at it.  In the meantime he told me not to spend too much time sitting.  Ha!  Ya, that's doable when I work at a desk all day...and oh, sitting is the only time I'm not in agonizing pain. Fab.

Lunch was light as I was in a hurry...

IMG_8487

Veggies, wheat crackers, and Sabra crack hummus.

IMG_8488

Of course I was hungry not long after that tiny meal!  So Squirrelly toast with Supercrack and the cheese I'm not so sure about...

IMG_8490

I had intended on getting some sort of activity.  I haven't been back to the gym since Monday, haven't kept up with Lynn's Seven Days of Yoga at all, and have barely even been outside since the weekend.  But somehow I got the bright idea to go shopping instead...and ended up coming home empty handed.  Oh well.

Well, not totally empty handed...I did get the world's tastiest ice cream bar from Purdy's.  I used to hate the roasted almonds when I was a kid, but now they are the whole reason I indulge once in a while!

713

By the time I finished shopping my pain was at like an 8 so I ate my dinner in the comfort of my desk chair and caught up on some blogs I haven't read in a bazillion years.

Leftover Chicken and White Bean Salad...

IMG_8492

Probably should have done some stretching but oh well...maybe today.  :)

Excuse me sir, there’s a tiger in my coffee.

Oh lordy people, it’s been a long day.  I’m afraid I am overtired and slightly goofy. Also lacking in the nutrient department.

You see…tomorrow is the first big day of my adventureThe moving truck is coming!!  Of course, as exciting as that is it also means that I was busting my ass trying to get every last thing packed today!

Thank goodness Cosette offered to come help tie up any loose ends. And to bring me a latte.

IMG_6836

Even though I said no to Starbucks (yes, it does happen!) I was so grateful to her for not listening to me.  :)  Tall, non-fat vanilla latte.  She knows me well.

Breakfast consisted of a broken granola bar I shoved in my mouth while dismantling my computer for packing.

After a few boxes were sealed, we headed off to meet Sarah for lunch.  I wanted a final meal at The Armview and now seemed like the time!

IMG_9423

I didn’t even need to look at the menu.  BLT on whole wheat with fries and a side of garlic mayo.  They make one of the best BLTs I’ve ever had.  Better than homemade!

IMG_9424IMG_9426

With ice tea.  Seemed like a packing day kind of meal.

IMG_9422

After that we came back and powered through a few more things before Cosette had to head off to retrieve her daughter from school.  I took a break from packing and actually had to work.  Good thing my job is flexible and nothing major happened today, so I was able to spend most of the evening getting through my outstanding projects and prepping things for my co-workers to cover while I’m off for the next two weeks.  I’m certain I forgot something, but I’m also certain the world will not end.  :)

While I worked I snacked on these AMAZING farm fresh strawberries I picked up from a road side stand on our way back from lunch.  So stoked that I was able to get some before leaving Nova Scotia

IMG_6828 IMG_6833

Not sure if these were Farm Girl berries but they were sooooo freaking deeeeelish!!!

Dinner was just a frozen Smart Ones meal.  Ravioli something-or-other.  The sauce is OK, but the pasta filling tastes like paste.

IMG_6837 IMG_6841

I feel kind of dirty for eating that.  LOL.

I worked until 9:30, then spent an hour walking around grabbing the last few things and filling up any open boxes.  People, I think this is it.  I think I got it all.  GULP.  It’s official.  I’m moving!!!

To celebrate I broke out my lowly spoon again to enjoy some Root Beer Float ice cream

IMG_6844

Hey, it’s for the good of the planet.  I don’t want to waste food!  ;)

Return of Mayo

After my Tuesday night beers, I woke up needing vitamins and hydration.  Before even hitting the coffee pot, I hit the blender.  (I know, I'm shocked too!)

Green smoothie time!

IMG_6584

In the KA today:  ice, 1/2 frozen banana, 2 handfuls baby spinach, 1/2 scoop chocolate whey protein powder, 1 tsp maca powder, 2 tsp flax meal, 3/4 cup UCAB...

IMG_6585

Combined with water and coffee that kept me going most of the morning.  I nibbled on a few cherries when I wandered through the kitchen at some point too.

Condo news:  Tiffaney subbed in for me (yet again!) for the inspection and it went AWESOME!!  She and my realtor both got a laugh because the inspector was seriously struggling to come up with ANYTHING bad to say!!  How great is that?  The unit and the building are both very well maintained and totally exceeded expectation.  Woooooo!  :)

Come lunch time I was totally looking forward to using up some leftover chicken I had cooked up while making dinner the night before.  For some reason I've been craving chicken salad!  I even bought a little jar of light mayo when I grocery shopped last week in anticipation of this meal coming together.

In the bowl:  chopped cooked boneless skinless chicken breast, celery, green onion, Sultana raisins, salt & pepper...

IMG_6587

Mixed with mayo and served open face on a toasted sandwich thin...and sprinkled with a smidge of dill...

IMG_6589

Sometimes I put grapes IN my chicken salad...this time I served them alongside...with a few light cheddar cubes...

IMG_6590

My afternoon went part way to h3ll in a hand basket.  My bank decided they wanted something fixed on my condo paperwork...which is a gigantic pain in the behind because I have to receive everything by email and then print it out and take it to Staples to fax back.  I have now spent so much on faxing, I could have purchased a scanner...argh.  Hopefully that's the last of it...*cross your fingers*.

Because of all that hoopla and the 4 hour time difference, I ended up missing yoga.  It was supposed to be my last class, so I'm going to try my damndest to get there next Wednesday night instead.

Instead I made a late dinner (more freezer finds!) and finally got a good start on some packing.

Perogies!  Fried up in a tiny knob of real butter with onions and garlic...

IMG_6592

Served with steamed broccoli and light sour cream for dipping.

IMG_6594  IMG_6591

Carby perogies made a good substitute for wanting stress foods like Cheeeetos.  :)  It was a good thing I didn't have any of those glowing orange munchies on hand...they wouldn't have stood a chance.

I did however have some yummy new ice cream in the freezer.  I have still been toting a craving for Coldstone around this last week, but in an effort to save a few bucks and not get into fast food/take out just yet (the road trip is going to be chock full of it!) I opted to try one of SuperStore's new ice cream shop flavours...Root Beer Float!

 IMG_6595

Super creamy!  Vanilla and root beer flavoured ice creams swirled together.  The flavour was perfect!  I did not like the crunchy candy bits in there though...crushed up pop flavoured Life Saver type things...I could have done without those.  But it did hit the spot while I packed up 4 boxes of kitchen ware. :)

IMG_6597

Twas a long day and I actually slept like the dead.  Here's hoping today is a little lighter. zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz.

The One Where I Skipped Dinner

Unless you count an ice creamy treat as dinner.  Do you?  :)

I found out tonight that Wendy’s now has vanilla Frosters.  I HAD to try it.

IMG_4889

Of course, then I was full so I’ve just nibbled on some fruit while enjoying a good TV night.  I only had a small…I can’t imagine ever trying to eat a bigger one.

IMG_4888

Pear.

IMG_4890

Grapes.

IMG_4891

No fun Autumn decor on my little shopping trip earlier.  :(  Boooo.  I did however find a cozy pair of boots at Winners, so my $20 windfall paid for more than half of those!

Hmmmm…and since I did three posts today, now I have nothing to say! ha!

Tomorrow I will bring you homemade chili, hopefully cornbread, and possibly a very yum spinach salad.  Also, stayed tuned for the new weekly feature “Around the Internet”.  (Week One can be viewed here).

Night all!

Why Was I Not Informed?

Of this!!

Driving up Quinpool Road today I noticed a new sign…

Cold Stone Creamery in Tim Horton’s!  *drool*

035

It should be noted that this very well could have been there for a month without me knowing, because I’ve been hermiting out here in suburbia for a while.

:)

I so know where I’ll be taking myself during my loner weekend.

Holy Guacamole!

Ha, you just knew I was gonna have to use that title eventually (hmmmm…maybe I already have…I’m not going back to look!).  :)

But before the guac, I have to show you the yummiest snack ever.  I picked up some fresh dates at Pete’s Frootique the other day.  Today I decided to try something I saw on a blog ages ago…stuffing them with peanut butter.  OMG!!  Soooo good.  I’d like to think that mine were extra good because I used the Cinnamon Raisin PB.  Deeeee-freaking-lish.  Do this!!

017

I worked a little late…til around 630ish…I tend to get caught up sometimes and not notice what time it is.  Ooops.  So I was pretty hungry by the time I headed downstairs.

Thanks to my meal plan I already knew what I was going to have!  I pulled some of my black bean turkey burgers out of the freezer last night so they were ready for cooking…I just had to whip up the guacamole and roast some veggies.

In the guac: avocado, chopped tomato, fresh jalepeno, red onion, lots of lime, fresh cracked sea salt, and cumin (I didn’t bother buying fresh cilantro for such a small batch).

001

For the veggies:  cauliflower, carrots, and zucchini tossed with a smidge of EVOO, cumin and chili powder.  Roasted on a foil lined sheet at 450 for 15 minutes.  Sprinkled with salt as soon as I pulled them out of the oven.

003

The burger patty was just cooked up in a teaspoon of veggie oil in a non stick pan.  Topped with some shredded cheddar.

005

All together. Yummy in my tummy!

007 008

After dinner I ran to Zellers for kitty litter and Band-Aids (how exciting!).  I trolled the candy aisle and was quite proud with I left with nothing…but then might have made my way through the DQ drive-thru AGAIN.

What’s with me and DQ the last couple of weeks?  Oh well, that’s what 6 gym days in one week are for!  Right?!

I hope that dirty little Kevin doesn’t backstab Jeff on Big Brother!!! (yes, random reality TV rant…)
