Shrimps on the Barbie

IMG_1508

That hammock pretty much sums up my Saturday. :)  Not that I didn’t get some things done (washed car, made breakfast cookies, whipped up some olive tapenade) but enjoying the sun was top on my priority list.

WIAT_Aug4

1. Coffeeeeee

2. Waffle with berries, cheesy scrambled eggs, ham.

3. Water, water, water…oh ya, water.

4. Lunch plate for 2: honey ham, smoked pepperoni, cukes, mushrooms, cheddar.

5. Hammock snacks: BBQ peanuts and blueberries.

6. Lime tortilla chips with salsa and cottage cheese.

7. Dinner plate for 2: olive tapenade, focaccia, veggies.

8. Watermelon and fresh basil.

On Sunday I wrangled Michael away from his ongoing household projects so we could load the dogs in the truck and take a nice long walk in the sun.  It was hot, sweaty and glorious…love the gorgeous weather!

WIAT_Aug5

1. Cottage cheese, non-fat yogurt, Raisin Bran, and blueberries.

2. Cherries and breakfast cookies.

3. Post-walk treats [unpictured]: small Tim Horton’s Iced Capp with chocolate milk (it’s lower cal and way tastier!  try it!) and 2 x lemon Timbits.

4. Focaccia with tapenade, ham and cucumbers.  BBQ peanuts on the side.

5. Grilled spot prawns, grilled zucchini, grilled mushrooms, and corn on the cob.

6. Movie treats: Peanut Butter M&M’s.

We finished the day by baking up a Peach-Blueberry Crisp and enjoying an air-conditioned movie.  The Dark Knight Rises did not disappoint.

Even thought today is a holiday here in BC, I’m spending a few hours sitting here in my jammies at Michael’s kitchen table doing some work for my regular job.  Nice to have a day off from my new office job though!  Lord knows more than a week of combing my hair and wearing real clothes was really wearing on me.  :)

Nothing wrong with eating Peach-Blueberry Crisp for breakfast either.

Happy BC Day!

3. Hummus and rice crackers.

4. Leftover “Greekish” salad and grilled chicken.

Tomorrow we hunt down a cherry pitter and brainstorm ideas for these bad boys.

Well hello Sally Bun

IMG_5848

Ah yes, that’s more like it.  Hello cup o’ joe!

I didn’t eat breakfast yesterday.  Unless you count the three Wheat Thins I munched and the fact that I stuck my finger in the peanut butter jar.  Which of course, I do not.

By the time I realized I was hungry it pretty much time to get ready to meet Jessica and Ingmarie for lunch.  The last time we were all together for dinner we somehow got talking about Sally Bun and how I’d never been there.  Jessica was appalled and requested we remedy that situation ASAP.

Who am I to say no?

Sally_BunIMG_0174

As promised by the girls, the salad was fresh and fabulous.  I totally love the design-your-own salad option…I created a small salad with lettuce & spinach, tomatoes, beets, cucumber and garbanzo beans…with their Creamy Lemon Feta dressing.  Crisp and delicious!!  Next time I would copy Ingmarie and pay 50 cents to add crumbly feta.  Nom.

Even though the lunch rush crowd had already picked over a few of the Sally Bun flavours there were still lots of options.  I tossed back and forth between the BBQ Beef and the Bacon/Tomato/Cream Cheese, but in the end the bacon totally won out.  *shocking*

That firm yet fabulously doughy bun contained enough cream cheese for an army and I loved every ounce of it.  Remind me of this when I can’t do up my pants!

My meal included this Snapple and still only came to $10.  Perfect lunch combo for sure.

On my way home I made sure to stop at one of my favourite coffee spots for a perfect latte.  Thank you Fernwood Coffee.

IMG_0176

Living close to Starbucks is convenient but sometimes a girl needs a properly constructed latte!  Plus, I ran into my friend Polly there and we scored a few minutes for girl talk.  Win.

After a quick trip to the grocery store it was back to work for the afternoon.  Not too terribly difficult actually…since our weather went to shiz today.  Windstorm took out my strawberries plants again!!  Wah. :(

Triscuits

For dinner tonight I was in charge of cooking for Michael.  I think he’s fed me like six times now so I figured it was time.  I made sure to provide snacks first so he wouldn’t feel neglected while I fixed up the actual meal.

Obviously I made one of my signature bigass salads.  Duh.  In the big silver bowl:  red leaf lettuce, carrots, cukes, radishes, cherry toms, and homemade dressing involving honey, Dijon and fresh basil.

IMG_1353

I promised him my “world-famous” (you know, the world in my head) turkey burgers.  These are of course, a knock off of my favourite turkey burgers but I still feel proud to serve them.

IMG_1356

After I forced him to tell me how delicious the meal was I stuffed some chocolate and water in my purse and we ran out for an early movie.  Larry Crowne.  Let me just ask…when was the last time Tom Hanks made a bad movie?  Never happens.  I was cracking up the whole time.

Then of course I stuffed my face some more after he left for the evening.  Totally normal date behaviour. ;)  At least it was cherries.

Also seen at the movie theatre:  Ryan Gosling’s abs.  Whoa mama.

You’re welcome.  Happy Friday.

Flip Flop Days

IMG_0636

It’s beginning to look a lot like….Sum-mer!  Everywhere you go!

IMG_0497

Basil has been added to the balcony planter garden.  Hello pesto.

Chibi and I started each day with a coffee walk.

IMG_0503

Some leftovers…

IMG_0504

After much debate I decided on a healthy snack for Saturday night’s Canucks game potluck at Rose’s.  Tis the season for fresh fruit!

IMG_0509

Instead of a boring ol’ fruit salad I decided on fruit kabobs…

IMG_0519

Mint & watermelon.  Do it.  Fruit on a stick is tres more classy, no?

IMG_0522

Almost as classy as light beer in your purse.

IMG_0524

Laura baked us cooooookies.  Yah, with chunks of chocolate and dried blueberries.  No plain cookies for that gal.

IMG_1758

Rose’s spinach dip was inhaled.  In fact there was so much bread left I’m pretty sure people were just licking the spoon.

IMG_1759

And then this happened!!!!!

Boston Creamed! Game two–Burrows winning OT goal!

Oh yes it did!!  In case you lost count…that’s Canucks TWO FOR TWO!

The best part of making fruit kabobs is all of the leftover fruit for me…

IMG_0539

Blazing through the second Nikki Heat book….Castle needs to put out a third for me ASAP.

IMG_0533IMG_0525

Chibi and I visited our friend Tia today, sipped some iced coffee (shocker) and took a walk down to the Legislature grounds to enjoy the glorious day.

IMG_0568IMG_0429IMG_0579

I felt like the only girl in the world that hadn’t seen Bridesmaids yet and the idea of a lovely air conditioned theatre was very appealing so I took myself on a movie date tonight.

Bridesmaids_movie

Nothing like a container of Ancient Grains Salad stuffed in your purse for dinner at a movie.

IMG_0645IMG_0646

It lived up to the hype…I laughed my ass off and enjoyed not sharing an arm rest.  (Having said that…I need a Summer movie date dammit!)

Nice pink sky to end the weekend.

IMG_0643

Alright Summer I think you can stay now.

Oink!

Hello long lost blog friends!!

So yesterday I had these AMAZING intentions of cleaning up my eating act after my weekend away…but alas it didn’t quite work out as planned.  I blame it on the fact that for some ungodly reason I thought I shouldn’t have coffee in the morning.  What the effing monkey was I thinking?

Breakfast was all good…

IMG_5771

Delicious fresh Peasant Bread I brought home from Tofino…with Sunflower Butter and banana.  A juicy pear on the side.

IMG_5773

Lunch was a bon voyage date for my friend Nicole who is moving to Germany (!!) this week.  She missed out on our girlie weekend due to her move so Ingmarie and I squeaked in one last date with her at Pig BBQ Joint in the new Atrium building downtown Victoria.

020019

Um, holy shiz. Deeeelish and filling. I’ve been hearing about Pig for eons…as it started out as a hole in the wall, then moved up, then up some more. I was pretty stoked about finally getting to go there (even if it did mean giving up salad for another day!).

The menu is actually pretty extensive (the girls both had the amazing looking fried chicken) but I opted to stick with the traditional pulled pork meal for my first visit.  It came with corn bread, whipped butter, and my choice of coleslaw or beans…but I wanted both so just paid the extra $.

009

It may not look like it’s huge, but I was soooo full about 1/3 of the way in.  I ate to the half way mark because it was tasty but eventually succumbed to packing it up to bring home.  This actually made me happy because I have now scored two full meals for under $15. Wooo.

The pork was definitely my favourite part…so tender and tangy. Corn bread isn’t my favourite but theirs was tasty especially with the delicious butter business.  The coleslaw was fabulously crisp and crunchy (I’m more of a creamy coleslaw gal but it still tasted fab) and the beans were pretty much awesome.  More like a dish of sweet mixed bean chili with all kinds of tomatoes and onions and such going on.

011013010012

I washed it all down with a fun soda… Boylan’s Birch Beer.  Yum.

008

After that I really needed a nap, but back to work with me instead.  I was full all afternoon but eventually decided I a caffeine hit was necessary so I busted into my Spicy Mandarin Silk Road tea (using my cute new bumble bee tea ball!).

IMG_5779IMG_5778

My evening plans had been to get fresh groceries, hit the gym for an hour of cardio and calorie burning, and to devour a bigass salad….but I was presented with the offer of a movie date I couldn’t turn down.  I’ve been looking for someone to see The Fighter with since it came out and my friend Ray was up for the show so I rearranged my schedule and made it happen.

Squeeeeezed in a 40 minute gym trip which included a quick row, a quick run, and a quick set of core work.  Skipped the groceries, ate a banana for dinner, and complemented all of that with movie theatre popcorn and a post-movie glass of wine.

Not at all healthy but fun nonetheless.  Maybe today I’ll finally eat a vegetable.  We’ll see. :)
