Treat

My honey was at Chapters today so came home with a treatie for me. He brought me a Starbucks Gingersnap Latte and boy was it ever yummy. I'd never had one before but he thought I had said I like them...either way it was tasty!

(now how do you politely tell someone that brings you a treat that next time you want your treat to be non-fat? hehe, you would think he would know by now. gotta love him anyway though!)

On the points side it was high, but he brought it just as I was getting into my conference call so it kept me happier during the call and I ended up not being hungry for lunch. Pin It

Stayed the Same

Happy Monday. I think. haha. Is there such a thing?

Good news is that DBF got home on Friday! Early too. I picked him up at 10:30, and thankfully I had worked ahead on Thursday night so didn't have to spend the day working. I don't remember my whole menu for the day, but I'm sure you will all forgive me for that. I know there was some early afternoon drinking...haha...which accounts for my lack of memory. We also spent the late afternoon and evening with some visiting Navy friends from the West Coast (might be DBF's last chance to see them for a long, long time) so that included some more drinks and I did order fish n chips for dinner when we were out. I hadn't eaten very much all day, and with the drinking I decided I needed something carby and greasy to soak up some booze and fill my tummy. I only ate one piece of the fish and a handful of the chips though so really it wasn't so bad. Later on, the gang ordered nachos and I didn't even touch them...not one chip. Truly a victory!

Saturday we spent the late morning/early afternoon shopping for new Christmas tree decorations. The tree is DBF's favorite part, so I waited for him to return before tackling that (I had already done the outside lights and other indoor decorations). Before braving the malls, we stopped at our fave little restaurant and had breaky. I had a mushroom & cheddar 2 egg omelette with bacon, a few home fries, and 1 slice of ww toast with a smear of PB. And coffeeeeeeee! It was a big breaky, but the rest of the day was pretty light so I think it pretty much evened out. At our afternoon pitstop at Starbucks I opted for the ever-popular Grande Coffee Misto with Egg Nog instead of a higher-point latte. Later, instead of dinner we opted to crack open some red wine while we decorated the tree and had some cheese, meat, and crackers instead of a meal. Yum!

Sunday I decided to have a really clean day. I knew I had a Hot Yoga class with Angie, Lynn, and Lesley so kept my early eating as simple as possible. Didn't even have coffee....instead had a cup of Gingerbread Spice tea (all the talk of Pumpkin Spice tea led me to start digging around the cupboards for something other than Pekoe!). For breaky I stuck with a serving of that Ginger Zing granola with 1/2 cup of vanilla soy milk. Later I made a smoothie with a whole tiny banana, 1/2 cup strawberries, a few blueberries & a cup of vanilla soy milk. Crazy good! After yoga I was starving so opted for about 1/2 cup 1% cottage cheese and two random slices of leftover old cheddar from Saturday night.

Dinner was a healthy mish-mosh of items on hand. A chicken & bean wrap thingy, side of steamed brocolli, and a few reheated baby potatoes with real butter. I was craving dessert as soon as dinner was over, but thankfully there was nothing readily available so I just chilled on the couch and eventually the craving went away. Later I was a bit peckish so I had a clementine orange. Yaaaieee me! :)

In the end that all led to a stay the same on the scale. I'm in my comfort zone, so it's all good. Pin It

Babybel to the Rescue

Last night's dinner was homemade chicken burgers (Superstore was out of ground turkey again!). I have this GREAT Rachel Ray turkey burger recipe that we love, but it includes a generous portion of old white cheddar and we were worried that they wouldn't turn out without our beloved cheesy goodness. But we subbed in one light Babybel per burger and it worked like a hot damn. Nice. The cheese is chopped up and mushed right into the burger, so when they are cooked up on the Foreman grill it gets all gooey and toasty. Soooo yum. Much better than just a stinky ol cheese slice on top.

I also made some potato wedges. I parboiled some spuds, then coated the wedges with some egg whites and seasonings. Cooked on a very well sprayed baking pan at about 400 or so until they got crispy. Not too shabby.

No big plans thought up for today. I have a hair appointment for a trim after work so dinner will be late. I'd like to just grab some take-out or maybe some salads from the grocery store, but we'll see. Maybe DBF will make something...hahahahahahaha.

It's quite lovely outside today, so I'm going to try to burn through some work right now so I can go for a walk at lunch. No gym for me today so I gotta do something. In fact, the gym probably won't happen this weekend since DBF is leaving on Monday and won't be back until Hell freezes over....stooopid Navy schedule. I'll have TONS of time to hit the gym for the next month, so I don't feel bad about missing a day this weekend. Well, maybe a little bad, but not enough to give up time with my boy. :)

Hmmm....menu thoughts for today...

- coffee
- All Bran Bar
- apple
- veggie sammich...that one yesterday was super yummy! (light cream cheese is the key!)
- Knorr Rustic Veg soup (awww....an Autumn fave)
- sesame rice crackers & light Laughing Cow
- dinner TBD...maybe Subway, maybe sushi, maybe I'll get creative in the kitchen
- probably a bowl of cereal later

Edit: DBF just brought me home Subway...not a healthy sub though...but I hadn't eaten lunch yet so I scarfed it down. I guess dinner will definitely have to be vegerific now!

The Musical Fruit

DBF went to visit a dietician yesterday so I was pretty interested to hear what info he came home with. Of course, the info he has is tailored more to him but I still wanted to hear what she had to say. It is mostly what I expected....portion control, less dairy, more fruit, more fibre, more healthy fats (specificallly Omega-3), eat breakfast, etc. I'm going to try to read through the extensive pamphlet she gave him, so I can make sure to help him with the healthiest dinners, etc possible. I do pretty much all of the dinner cooking, so for the most part everything is quite healthy because that's my lifestyle...but I need to make sure I am incorporating her suggestions for him now. I am actually really looking forward to it! And I wish I could have gone with him to see her so I could pick her brain too. Oh well, I'll just learn by osmosis from him. :)

One of the things she specifically told him was to make friends with beans. This will be tough because he's not a bean fan at all. But she gave him a little booklet of recipes and recommended a few in it that she says most of her patients like, so I'll be giving them a go to see if we can get him liking them. Apparently white pea beans (aka Navy beans) are one of the most nutritious foods out there...lots fibre, protein, vitamins, etc.... We already knew beans were good for us, but apparently these ones are the best. This may mean that I can try out some of my recipes that include black beans or chick peas, etc and he might actually eat them now!

Another thing that she told him to try was to get soy protein into his diet. I'm not totally sure the reason for this, but I'm guessing it's because she wants him to limit his dairy intake (he drinks 4 litres of milk every 2-3 days, and now has to cut down to 3-4 glasses per week), plus because he'll be eating smaller meat portions and leaner meat portions, he needs to get his good protein from other sources. So we got him some vanilla Silk to make his new breakfast smoothies with (a good way for a non-lover of fruit to fit it into his menu)....I tasted it and wouldn't drink it as a milk replacement but would definitely use it for cereal and stuff like that.

And finally....she recommended flax meal for him...especially for the Omega-3 aspect...and conveniently I just bought some (I exchanged those seeds I bought and got the ground stuff)....so he put it in his smoothie and said it was fine. So I'll try stirring it into sauces and stuff for us too.

So we'll see how it goes....I'm excited for him to do this, although it will be a hard change for him. I won't be blogging a lot about it because it's his life, not mine, and if he wants the world to know about it then it's up to him. I'm not one to announce other people's lives on my blog...but I wanted to share the few interesting things I heard so far.

As for me, I had a dentist appointment this morning and my face is still slightly frozen so here it is 11:30 and I haven't eaten yet. I did manage to slurp back part of a latte, but I dribbled my last sip so now I'm waiting. (DBF, sweetheart that he is, stopped at Starbucks with some work buddies this morning and had himself a black coffee with sweetener...tough for him and his love of the Frap...and brought home lattes for me and Mom.)

I have lots of work to do...still catching up from being off last week, plus some boookkeeping issues that came up, and I'm off tomorrow....so hopefully I finish early enough to get some kind of workout in this evening. We didn't get our walk last night because it gets dark so early now...booooooo....so I really feel I need to do something today.

Today's eats...when I can finally shovel them in....

- SB triple grande vanilla latte (he forgot to say non-fat, but it was a nice gesture and I really needed coffee! 2% won't kill me.)
- Liberte Svelt vanilla yogurt with 1/2 banana
- Campbell's Italian Wedding soup, hummus & toast
- apple & natural PB
- dinner will be to try out these chicken and bean wrap thingies the dietician recommended, served with tossed salad
- grapes Pin It

Uber-Cheat Day

Weeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee! Honey is finally home today! 33 days gone. (don't remind me that he's leaving again tomorrow though....)

So, in usual Bi0nic family fashion, we have planned ourselves an "uber-date". This is what we call our date nights that involve fancy restaurants, expensive wines, and slight overindulgence. :)

We are going to CUT for a lovely dinner. I can already taste the boconcinni salad and the local filet mignon and the lovely red wine and, and, and.... I've heard nothing but fabulous reviews from friends about this restaurant. Mostly about the food, but a lot about the great service and the little extras that they offer (like placing a little hook on the table for a purse to hang on, remembering which coat is yours, walking you to the door at the end of the evening).

Needless to say, today is a planned non-OP day. There will be no counting!

In preparation for the evening I'm carefully making sure to include protein in my breakfast and lunch, and sticking with fruits or veggies for a couple of snacks. I don't have time for the gym since I need to get as much work done as possible so I don't have to keep working after I pick DBF from the ship, but I will be doing a few sets of crunches on my ball, tricep dips, lunges and squats....just to make sure I'm all ready for my cute dress tonight!

Did I mention weeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!

153.6

Woooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo!!! Today the scale is my friend! Down 2.8lbs since Wednesday. Nice. Goes to show that even with a planned cheat day, the system can work. Yaaieee for Weight Watchers and Yaaieee for me for sticking to my plans. Can you say "holy sigh of relief Batgirl!"?

Oh, and you guys won't believe this, but last night while eating dinner DBF asked me if I'd like to go for a walk around the neighborhood. Oh. My. God. I couldn't believe it! So off we went for a stroll around the area (1.2km for my goal!)....first time he's gone with me since we moved in...SEVEN months ago! Yaaaieeee some more!!

Saturday's trip to Victoria Park in Truro was really beautiful. We didn't get as much exercise as Lynn and her hubby did (funny that we were there at the same time....never saw them though) because we had Mojo the crazy dog with us, and he's not so good with walking around in the scorching sun. We still got a good trail stroll in though. (see my other blog for the photos and such).

Today is back to normal...got up early to drive DBF to work, and hit the gym. 20+ minutes on the elliptical today...ramp interval program, with sprints on the low ramp sections. Then my full strength training routine with some added oblique exercises. Good and sweaty!

I treated myself to another Doubleshot on Ice from Starbucks....cuz it's starting to get hot already....gonna be 29 degrees today (which means about 40 in my office!!). Water and fruit are high on the agenda to keep me hydrated (after my caffeine fix of course).

Monday's Menu:

- SB Doubleshot on Ice
- vanilla Shreddies with vanilla Almond Breeze
- fresh pineapple & blackberries
- deli turkey on multigrain with veggies & honey mustard, served with Asian Slaw (I'm addicted!)
- cucumber sticks, baby carrots
- cherries (and maybe a granola bar if I need it)
- dinner is leftover steak on leftover garlic toast with sauteed onions & mushrooms, probably with more Asian slaw or maybe a corn on the cob
- Liberte vanilla yogurt with fresh blueberries & strawberries Pin It

Honey is Home!

Extremely tired, and seriously bruised from a fall at sea, but he's here!!

So there will be no menu plan per se today. Pizza is on the agenda as neither of us wants to waste time cooking, and since the sun is out and he has a duty-free bottle of Kaluha I feel a White Russian coming on. :)

I'm sure he will end up crashing later this afternoon, so if that happens I will walk the happy puppy...but if he doesn't, then the dog will be content that Daddy is home. Pin It

No News Today

Booooooo. DBF did not get his good news.

He completed all of the steps to finally get his official promotion at work, but typical Military red tape is leaving him frustrated and waiting for someone to get off their arse and actually promote him. They are in the midst of massive seminars this week, and it is creating a hassle for his CO to come down and make it happen. This has been a long time coming and he justs wants it to be official!

Booooooo.
