Consider my Booty Kicked!

This morning FH drove himself to work so I enjoyed a bit of a sleep in until it was time to start work.

Coffee and a cookie to start the day…

IMG_1275

The cookie is in honor of the Bake Sale for Haiti!  :)  have you bid on a baked treat yet?  hmmmmm?

I kept breaky lighter than usual knowing today is an off day from the gym

Plain yogurt, sliced banana, sprinkle of hemp seeds, and drizzle of real maple syrup

Nom!

At lunch time, I finally got to try out the Booty Camp Fitness DVD I received last week.  It’s tough to find alone time around here to test it out (and lord knows I’m not doing it in front of FH!).  I mean, he’s at work during the day but I’ve usually already gone to the gym and work through my lunch hour.

IMG_1303 IMG_1304

So first, I opted for my hot pink workout gear…in honor of the Booty Camp ladies.  :)

And my new lululemon Tracker Tight CropsYes, I’m actually showing a photo of my butt on the blog.  I have no shame apparently.  But the back of the crops are cute, no? ;)

 IMG_1296

Anywho…for my first attempt I chose a short program…Booty Booster.  The Intro to Iron program doesn’t cover a lot of tushie workouts so I figured this was a good place to start.  I mean…it IS “booty” camp afterall!

14 mins and my butt was screamin’!

Review #1 = A+  Hopefully I can walk tomorrow.  :)

I made a quick lunch afterwards.  Toast and a (no oil) fried egg.

With a side of cukes.

Conference call snacks included cantaloupe

and peanut butter pretzels.

Our meeting ran long, I still have work to do, I am monitoring the bake sale and Twitter, need to eat dinner, and FH and I want to be out the door to a movie in 23 minutes.  Gotta run!!

Give Some, Get Some

First things first

haiti-trace-blue013

Tomorrow is the big day!  Head on over to The Chic Life and pick out a sweet treat to bid on.  The online bake sale runs tomorrow (Wed, Jan-27th) from 12:01am to 11:59pm ET and there a literally dozens of items to chose from.  All proceeds are going to the American Red Cross Haitian Relief efforts.  I know you can all spare a few bucks to help out, and in return a fabulous blogger will send you some yummy homemade baked goods.

If you really want to make my day, make a big bid for a batch of my Mayan Chocolate Sparklers.  They won’t disappoint, I promise!!

(Diana is going to have an actual bid page, hopefully along with a plug-in to track all of the bids…poor girl is burning the midnight oil trying to get everything ready.  update: Ready to rock!!  Get bidding!!)

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

And back to our regularly scheduled programming

After all my big talk about morning workouts, the early mornings caught up with me a bit this afternoon.  Around 3pm I could feel myself waning, so I filled up my water cup and poured a 1/2 serving of peanut butter pretzels.

003

Must be going around…Ali wrote about the same problem today.

In fact, I managed to eat an unpictured Coconut Dark Chocolate Kashi bar after picking FH up.  It’s my own fault, I haven’t been drinking near enough water…and when I get thirsty I crave carbsFigure that one out!

Come dinner time it was back to the bigass tray of lasagna.  I baked up a half serving in the oven…

009

And steamed up a giant side of veggies…asparagus, broccoli, cauliflower.

007

For dessert I pulled out the bag of previously frozen Mayan Chocolate Sparkler balls I had stashed away at Christmas time.  All this talk about cookies for the bake sale reminded me that I hadn’t cooked these off at New Years.

004

I dangerously discovered that these frozen balls of goodness don’t actually require baking to be enjoyed. uh-oh!

I ate a frozen dough ball and it was deeeeeeelish.  DANGER!!

Whoever bids on these babies is one lucky person.  If I do say so myself. :)

Extra Extra

Hmmm…let’s see.  There seems to be a fair amount of shiz going down in blogland right now.

First and foremostAngie’s got a bun in the oven!  If you haven’t already heard, head on over and check out her post spilling the beans.  And stay tuned for a revamp and baby-mama bloggin’!

Now, have a looksie over to the right there ---> where you will see a button for the Online Bake Sale for HaitiClick it! The lovely Diana over at The Chic Life is raising funds for Haiti’s earthquake relief and I have offered to bake up a couple dozen of my Mayan Chocolate Sparklers (with extra sugar coating!) for the bake sale.  Have a look at the list of baked goodies and pick out something to bid on.  I already have my eye on a couple of yummy treats!

Keeping with the spirit of generosity, check out Vanessa’s giveaway at Last Night’s Leftovers.  All she asks is that you tell her about something charitable you’ve done recently and she’ll enter you in the draw for her awesome prize pack.

And since I’m flogging contests, don’t forget to enter my Amazing Grass giveaway and tell me what your resolutions or goals for 2010 are.  The draw is tomorrow! (Yes, flog is the word of the week apparently.  I’m overusing it!)

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

OK, now that’s all out of the way on to the real goods.  Fooood porn!

After my early morning workout (Day 3 of Fitnessista’s Intro to Iron), I got groceries and finally made it to the post office.  I was running low on fuel, so grabbed myself a bigass latte from Starbucks to get my motor running…

IMG_0914

Triple grande vanilla non-fat latte.  (Someone please remind me to order half sweet…I’m getting picky in my old age!)

I needed food quickly, so toast it was.  I love sunflower seeds in my bread.  Just thought you would like to know.

Toasted up with The Bee’s Knees PB, raisins and sliced banana.

This post got so long I had to break it into three…

Today I:

  • Walked the 5km for Prostate Cancer
  • Made a yummy brunch
  • Did my nails
  • Read a whole magazine
  • Prepared my medical expenses (for the second time!)
  • Fought with our scanner (but managed to scan what I needed)
  • Made On the Glow granola bars
  • Ate a lot of cookies
  • Created a pizza for Pizza Sunday

The Walk:

In typical Halifax fashion, the good weather we had last week has disappeared as quickly as it came.  It started raining last night and proceeded to continue on through the night bringing with it a whole lotta wind for this morning.

FH and I dragged our butts down to the beautiful Dalhousie campus for around 8:45ish (I wisely made us coffee to drink in the car).  I snacked on a half banana smooshed with White Chocolate Wonderful (the granola bar never got eaten).

IMG_1709IMG_1710

There was an excellent turn out…although it’s astounding what is considered a good turn out for this particular cause.  We ran into our uber-athlete neighbors, and mostly just waited around to get going (at least with a small group like this we all fit in an indoor area).  At 9:30 sharp, we were off.  I had figured on about 45 minutes, but the clock struck exactly 53 minutes as we crossed the finish line.  I blame the two stoplights that held us up, plus the fact that walkers were restricted to the sidewalk.  haha…no excuses…it was a good walk, although we were pretty wet when we finished.

IMG_1717IMG_1720IMG_1722IMG_1725

FH felt accomplished and proud of his goal…and that’s what it was really all about.

IMG_1711IMG_1712

The Brunch:

Upon our return home, we each enjoyed a smidge more coffee and a celebratory chocolate chip cookie.  :)

IMG_1733

Then I set out scrambling some eggs and making bacon and toast.  In the eggs:  2 eggs, 2 egg whites, dill, s&p, sauteed mushrooms, light cheddar.

On the Glow Bars: (tune in tomorrow)

The Scanner Fight:  (tune in tomorrow)

And finally…Pizza Sunday: (see post later tonight)

Helping Fight the Evil Powers of Prostate Cancer

FH feels very strongly that prostate cancer doesn’t get the publicity for awareness that it deserves (rightly so!), so this year we are walking in the Safeway Father’s Day Walk for Prostate Cancer.

Prostate Walk

Did you know:

  • Prostate cancer is the number one cancer threat to Canadian men.
  • One in every six men will be diagnosed with the disease in his lifetime and this is expected to rise to one in four within a decade.
  • In 2008, 24 700 Canadian men were diagnosed with prostate cancer, compared to 22 400 women diagnosed with breast cancer, with similar mortality rates.
  • In contrast, the Government of Canada allocated $183.5 million of taxpayer's dollars for site specific cancer research, with breast cancer receiving $48.4 million vice only $16.8 million allocated to prostate cancer research.

Astounding, right?

I didn’t come on here announcing this before now because I just spent three weeks harassing you all to donate to the Canadian Cancer Society when I did the Relay for Life.  But if you feel as strongly as FH about supporting Prostate Cancer research efforts, then please visit his pledge site and offer a donation.  (It’s worth having a look just because his write-up is well written.)

This post is going up as we are doing the 5km walk here in Halifax.  We have a group of very good friends doing the run in Victoria in memory of two of their fathers that were taken by this terrible disease.  Wish us luck!  (it’s raining as I type this…)

Someone's Having a Birthday

Happy Birthday Honey! I already gave you a shout out over here, so that's all your getting on this blog. :) (already downstairs enjoying his birthday giftie and playing rock n roll at 10am!)

Another shout out to Angela over at Oh She Glows. A fellow Canadian supporter of the Canadian Cancer Society, she is offering a contest to help her come up with some fabulous fundraising ideas. In order to motivate us all for some help, she's giving away some yummy Jocolat bars and a few of her own OSG bakery goods. Check it out!

Was anyone else shocked and annoyed that The Amazing Race wasn't on last night? Booooo. I have had to watch it on PVR all season and this time I was actually home and ready to watch and it wasn't on. Lame. Instead I watched the pilot of Cupid that I PVR'd and I think I'm in love. So cute (and the show is good too!). Bobby Canavale. Drool.

This morning I slept in a little since FH didn't have to work. He has most of the week off due to them dragging them out to sea for the weekend and then they are leaving for almost SIX WEEKS immediately following the coming Easter weekend. Blech.

I started off with a yummy and much needed cup of coffee. Bought something new this time. A local bag of Just Us! (Most of you are aware that I almost always buy Starbucks...Verona... but every once in a while I like to break out of the mold.) It's tasty, but maybe a little light for our tastes. Still a great morning pick me up though. I'm enjoying my second cup now!
Now that I'm finished reading everyone's blogs (man that sure sucks a lot of morning time! haha) I have put together a small breakfast. Super thick n creamy Liberte coconut yogurt with 1/2 sliced banana and some Cinnamon Puffins. Holy moly, it's like pie for breakfast!! Yummy isn't a good enough word. De-freaking-licious!
