Meal Times

IMG_2021

Morning coffee. How else would I start a blog post? Specifically this is a homemade vanilla soy misto putting my new San Jose mug to good use.

My meals were all out of whack today.  Late, late, and more late.

IMG_2023

Silver Hills multigrain toasted with natural PB and honey drizzle.  Leftover Asian pear with extra PB.  Fresh dates.

IMG_2025

It took me like 2 hours to eat breakfast…so no late morning snack…and lunch wasn’t eaten until around 3:30.

IMG_2033

Yup, that’s a frozen meal you see there.  Today I learned that those microwave Weight Watchers meals can indeed be cooked in a conventional oven…which was handy since I was already cooking sweet potato chips too.

IMG_2030

Santa Fe Beans & Rice topped with salsa and a sour cream drizzle.  Chips for scooping.  I fear I lost the yam vs sweet potato battle the other day…but I’m sticking to my guns.

IMG_2034

Does it really matter as long as it tastes good?  I think not.

I realized not all too long ago that I actually never ate dinner!  I had big plans for a bunch of broccoli to up my veggie intake for the day, but as I sat down to dig into my fresh baked Pumpkin Cinnamon Bun (x2!) it occurred to me that I’d never made a meal.

Pumpkin counts as a vegetable.  So I say!

The broccoli lives to see another day.

Hockey Food

Hi guys.  Sorry all of my posts are a day delayed and crazy long because I’m only doing one per day.  It’s tough to keep up while in vacay/condo hunting mode.

Yesterday I scheduled six more viewings with my realtor since nothing from my “potential favourites” list really panned out on Monday.  I had intended to get up and work out before heading out to do that, but decided reading my Sookie Stackhouse book for an hour was time better spent.  :)

Ran over to Starbucks for my morning jolt.  The problem with going out for coffee is that 75% of the time I come back with food too.  This time Lemon Loaf…

IMG_5431 IMG_5434

I did eat half of a banana too right before running out the door to pick up my realtor.  Yes, I said pick up my realtor.  LOL.  Poor guy’s car totally died just as he came to get me…some sort of starter problem…totally beyond his control but man did he feel bad.  Thankfully Tiffaney doesn’t use her car during the day so she generously offered it up, so off we went.  I was soooo grateful to not have to put off those viewings since I’m totally in a time crunch here!  Five of the six sucked, but at least we looked!

When we were done, I decided to head to the mall for some retail therapy…and a few much needed new Summer wardrobe pieces.  While there I hit the food court for lunch.

The food court truly is a nemesis. All I ever want is tacos or Japanese.  And not healthy sushi, but a teriyaki rice bowl loaded with calories, sugar and probably MSG.

But not to worry, I had Subway.  :)  Six inch turkey on the parmesan bread, toasted.  Lettuce, cucumber, double tomatoes, pickles, and one line of the Southwest sauce.

IMG_8920 IMG_8921

With a much needed bottle of water and two cookies to split up for treats later.  I ate one in the car when I finished shopping.  I did also stop and get a tall coffee at Starbucks on my way home, but totally didn’t even finish drinking it.

For our evening plans, Tiffaney and I were invited to watch the Canucks game at our friends Ingmarie and Alex’s.  They offered up dinner so how could we resist!?

I stopped and picked up some Holy Hummus, Stacy’s Pita Chips and fresh veggies to take with us…which I chopped up once we got there.

IMG_8926 IMG_8927

Ingmarie made a giant bowl of homemade guacamole, which everyone immediately devoured…

IMG_8922

And for dinner she gave us the option of Bison burgers or Lamb burgers with gruyere cheese in the middle.  No boring frozen burgers for their hockey party!!

I chose Bison.  Ah-freaking-mazing.

IMG_8928 IMG_8929

On a soft and squishy cheese bun with mayo, fancy ketchup, greens, tomatoes and a pickle on the side…

IMG_8931

Um, yum.  That is all.

Alex offers up a wide array of fantastic beers (or wine, or cocktails for that matter) so I decided that might be the way to go with my fancy burger.

IMG_8930

Canoe Bavarian Copper Boch.

Red, hoppy, and delicious.  One glass hit the spot!

And if that’s not enough, Ing baked off an apple pie she had purchased from a fundraiser…and served it with French vanilla ice cream…

IMG_8932

The only thing that would have made the evening better is if the Canucks had won!  Dammit.  (oh and if the perfect condo had magically appeared on the market…that would have been nice too…)

A Good Friday

Well, aside from the fact that I managed to sleep through my alarm this morning (I swear it didn’t go off, but it must have!) and got a late start…I’ve actually managed to accomplish most of my work to-dos for today!

I made it about an hour before deciding I had to go to Starbucks for coffee…

IMG_3852

I ordered a double tall, but they messed up and charged me for a triple grande…so I asked them to remake it instead of refunding me.  So…triple grande non-fat vanilla latte.

Probably for the best…I neeeeeeded that caffeine today!

I brought it home to enjoy with a simple breakfast of sourdough toast with pb & bananas…

IMG_3854IMG_3855

…and a few fresh strawberries, since they seem to hit their peak of ripeness.

IMG_3853

I planned a light lunch as I have somewhat decadent dinner plans and I want to be hungry and prepared to enjoy that!

Medium-ass salad…

IMG_3857

…with organic baby lettuces, matchstick carrots, radishes, cukes, and kumato tomatoes.  At the last minute I added a handful of black beans.  Dressed with EVOO and s&p.

IMG_3858

*cue angels singing*  The crack hummus, Sabra roasted garlic, has returned!!

IMG_3859 IMG_3861

Paired a substantial dollop with some of these in Snax multigrain pita chips I’ve had stashed in the pantry for a while (sorry, I can’t seem to find a website for them)…

IMG_3862

And some cacciatore and old cheddar Arron told me to help myself to, since he had to go away.  Don’t mind if I do!

IMG_3864 IMG_3865

FYI:

tasty pita chips + amazing hummus + aged white cheddar = BLISS!!

Nom!!!

Not much time left to finish work and get myself presentable for the evening so I must run!  Still need to write up a couple of yard sale signs to hang up on my way out tonight too.  Yikes!

Time for Food

Well I think that is enough of that.  :)  Time to get back to the whole food blogging posts and such, dontcha think?

I slept in.  ha, what’s new?  And I knew I was going for a coffee on my way to the hairdresser so I didn’t bother with breakfast.  Doesn’t make much sense, but oh well.

Since I don’t own anything green to wear today, I ate something kind of green instead.  Amazing Grass Berry Green Superfood Bar.

027 029

Munched on that in the car.  Hit the drive-thru for a double tall non-fat half-sweet vanilla latte…

030

Got’s my hairs did…

031

Just a trim so I’m sure it looks no different to you all.  :)

When I got home I only had about 20 minutes to quickly look through some emails (I will try to answer you all tonight!!) and make lunch before my weekly conference call.  I knew I couldn’t wait to eat, so I slammed together a salad at warp speed.

034

In da big bowl: organic greens, strawberries, Gala apple, herby goat cheese, drizzled with EVOO and honey, and sprinkled with hemp seeds.

035

Nom nom nom!!

I also chugged back this bottle of SmartWater in about 10 minutes.  So thirsty.

037

Side of fresh cantaloupe to tide me over til the end of the meeting.

038

I do now need to find something a little more substantial because none of that was very calorie/carb/protein dense.  I see Squirrelly toast in my future.  :)

Arron is working tonight so I think I shall take up residence on the couch and get some extra work done, write a few guest posts, and maybe get another step further on sorting my tax papers.  With that in mind, I think now is a good time to step outside for some sunshine.

14 degrees baby!!

Sugar Powered Saturday

The plan for today was shop, shop, shop.  For this I needed to ensure a good caffeine intake and long lasting breakfast.  Conveniently I had a coffee date planned with a couple of girlfriends this morning!

We’ve been hearing about a gem of a cafe over in Dartmouth so I suggested we try it out today.  Two if by Sea Cafe did not disappoint!

IMG_7445 IMG_7437

I ordered a Cafe Mocha.  No non-fat, or half-sweet, or anything different…just straight up.  The way it really should be sometimes.

I adore coffee art!!!

IMG_7438

And a homemade pain au chocolat…which I knew would be huge because croissants are the cafe’s specialty…but this was literally half the size of my head.

IMG_7436

Crisp, buttery, still warm.  OMG.  People, seriously heaven in a pastry!!!  Completely and totally worth the indulgence.

IMG_7442

Sarah ordered Earl Grey tea, which was loose-leaf and served in this super cute individual press pot…

IMG_7433

And the almond croissant which was possibly larger than mine…

IMG_7434

I totally missed getting a pic of Cosette’s soy chai latte…but I think that is because I was busy ooohing and aaahing over Camille’s fancy-schmancy hot chocolate…

IMG_7440

And marvelling that her cookie was indeed the size of her whole head!

IMG_7441

Monthly cafe date?  I think it’s a must!!

Cosette also brought me a belated birthday prezzie!!!  The reFresh cookbook.  Drooooool.  You should see the list of juices, smoothies, salads, noodle bowls, and other fun recipes in here!!

IMG_7444

After our coffee chat I headed off to the mall.  I really wanted to power-shop the day away and tackle as many gifts as possible.  I did OK but I have a couple of family members that are brutal to shop for!!  I accomplished about half of what I wanted, but such is life.

I did follow my own shopping rules though.  My breakfast held me over for HOURS (eliminating the need for lunch), I avoided the chocolate shops, I brought a bottle of water and a snack in my purse…

IMG_7447 IMG_7448

I avoided stopping for food court or take-out and instead made a quick trip to the grocery store for fresh eats for dinner.  After all of the chocolate and pastry I was seriously craving veggies and protein!!

White wine & herb salmon from Superstore, baked zucchini slices with olive oil, steamed broccoli & carrots…

IMG_7451 IMG_7452

My body is thanking me!!

I did miss my rule about planning in some activity though.  Once I got into the house from the crazy cold wind I had no intention of heading back out to the gym.

My evening entails The Christmas Shoes, a few household chores, painting my toenails, and some Candy Cane Lane tea…

IMG_7458

I’ll sleep well tonight.  :)
