▌♥ ▌Proud to be a Canadian!! ▌♥ ▌

I’m not even sure I need to write a post about the final days of the Olympics…I’m pretty sure you are all up to speed on what happened!

Medal Count CANADA ▌♥ ▌

14 GOLD!!  7 SILVER  5 BRONZE = 26 MEDALS!

What a way to go out!

(I’ll ignore the ridonkulous attempt at a Canadian rock “concert” at the closing ceremonies because the excitement of the men’s hockey game was good enough that nothing after that really mattered anyway.)

Thumbs up for Michael Buble and inflatable beavers.

Thumbs down for Avril and her inappropriate footwear and Chad Kruger’s hair.

In completely unrelated news, I needed to un-blog for the weekend.  (If that’s wasn’t a word before, it is now!)

Saturday I had coffee with Katie

009

And managed to squeak in one last February workoutIntro to Iron Day One.  7pm on a Saturday night is a good time to find a quiet gym…just FYI.

Sunday I had brunch with the Halibloggers.

Cora’s veggie omelette with side of bacon.  Heaven.

010

Lynn has photos of the gang!

Followed by a Susie’s cupcake.  Classic.

014

And enjoyed the good ol’ hockey game!

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Hopefully I can wrangle up my blogging mojo and get back to a real post for y’all later today.  The luke warm latte I received this morning a la Starbucks did not help to get my Monday off on the right foot.

Here’s to turning things around PDQ.

Yay Canada Yay!

Formspring Friday

I mentioned a couple of times last week that I had decided to join the formspring along with a bunch of other bloggers.  I was skeptical that it would be fun, but I now admit I’m totally addicted.  :)  Go check out my page and ask me something…I won’t say anything because obviously some stuff is off limits, but have at it!

It’s a good distraction between work tasks!  As is lunch…

Just leftovers…it’s seriously mother hubbard’s cupboard around here…

IMG_2762

This was the roasted veggie/navy bean concoction from earlier this week…with a scoop of hummus just for fun.

Early afternoon I got hungry again.  This is what happens when I don’t have oats for breakfast.  Smoothies are delicious and nutritious but they don’t have sticking power.

I was hunting for chips, but ate this bosc pear instead.

IMG_2764

And drank a lot of water, which only made me hungrier.  Yes, water makes me hungry!  It’s that quasi-ulcer type situation I have…water works in reverse on me.

So I ate the last serving of Eggies

IMG_2765

Good.  Now they are gone!

Worked a bit late but nothing too major. My aching back can’t take sitting there that long.  I ended up not making it to the gym due to weather, work and back pain…but I wanted to do something so I popped in the Booty Camp Fit DVD and did the Booty Booster.  Love that 14 minutes of pain!

I wanted to do abs too, but my back wasn’t having any part of it.  I am sooooooo over this injury.  Make it stop.  Pleeeeeeease.

When I opened the fridge I realized dinner was going to be a challenge.  The shelves are pretty much bare.  I guess my plan not to buy groceries this week worked!  I did spy some broccoli so I pulled some chicken from the freezer and a box from the cupboard and make quick work of a tasty meal.

Chicken, broccoli and risotto.  Deeeeelish.

IMG_2772

Cheater risotto…

IMG_2771

Chicken breast marinated with EVOO, balsamic, garlic, Italian Seasoning and s&p…grilled on the Griddler.

IMG_2777

All this fanciness cooked up and eaten while FH waited for a pizza.  Silly boy missed out!!

I saved half the chicken for tomorrow.  And had a glass of milk because I’ve been slacking on the dairy this week…

IMG_2778

So now I have my Magic Bag, hot tea, a Kashi cookie and I’m just waiting for the men’s Olympic hockey game to start.  Twitter peeps convinced me to watch women’s curling and the minute I turned in they lost the Gold.  Damn.  Silver’s good too though!

Itty Bitty Post

My beloved readers…

I fear tonight’s blog will be tres boring on the photo frontier.

I ate too many of these…

IMG_2742

…while working late…which didn’t leave me hungry for dinner.

So all you get is a picture of an egg on toast

IMG_2747

Not even a good picture!  Sorry kids.  ;)

But I can leave you with yet another Go Canada Go!!

The Canadian Women’s Hockey Team just picked themselves up some lovely GOLD hardware.  Wooooooooooooooooooooooo!

Breaking Olympic records all over the place.  History being made!  Love it!!

Everything is better in PINK!

According to Ali anyway!  :)  Yesterday I had two fabulous packages to retrieve from the post office.  One was a box of red mittens my lovely Mama sent on out for a bunch of my East Coast friends.  And the other was my lululemon loot from Miss Ali’s giveaway.

IMG_2715 IMG_2724 IMG_2726

Yes, more lululemon in da house.  I have a problem.  :)

Thanks Ali!!!

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Holy moly for yesterday’s Canadian Olympic athletes, eh?  Breaking records all over the place!!  GOLD, 2x SILVER, and BRONZE!  All brought in by fabulous females.  Love it.  Not too mention the large group of sad Russian male hockey players.  We’re on fire!

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

This morning it was up and at ‘em to drive FH and hit the gym.  Back pain or not, I need to get back into a routine.  I’m coming up short on February workout stickers and that is not OK with me.

I did a slow 10 minute run on the treadmill and felt fine so hopefully tomorrow I can work in a full length cardio session.  Sweat needed!  Also did Day Three of Intro to Iron.  I hate that I have to drop my weights down and can’t do any of the “fancier” crunches, but I know my body is telling me to take it easy.  At least I felt stronger today!!

Came home for a hot shower and hot coffee

IMG_2734

And PB&J on toast

IMG_2731 IMG_2732

Then crammed in two hours of whirlwind work before heading off to massage therapy.  I love how everyone was tweeting about how jealous they were of my massage.  LOL.  People this is not the soothing massage…this is the hurts so good massage.  In about two hours I’m going to be stiff as hell.

Which is why I bought a new Magic Bag. Heat is my friend.

IMG_2737

So is hydration.  Most important thing you can do after a massage is chug water.  I cracked open one of these bottles of SmartWater I received from Glaceau the other day.

IMG_2736

“it’s vapour distilled for pure taste and hydration you can feel.”

Um, OK.  Whatever they say.  It’s water!  :)

By now I was starvin’ like Marvin and thankful that I had one last container of leftover Chicken Alfredo in the fridge.  One minute and 45 seconds later…lunch.

IMG_2738

I feel an evening of work coming on.  Lots to do and too much running around today.  Must get cracking!

Ruskies

Congratulations to Clara Hughes! So happy for her!  She’s just so damn cute and feisty…I really wanted her to win a medal.  And she did!!

Oh, and what about poor Lindsey Vonn?  That poor girl is accident prone.  She attracts injuries like lint to velcro.  Yikes.

No schmancy dinner to report on this evening.  I was scrambling like a mad fool to get out the door for coffee with Tasha, Angie and Lynn and completely scratched food from the to-do list.

Instead I enjoyed a hunk of reduced fat chocolate chip banana loaf (pretty much the only Starbucks treat I find edible…well, except that 1100 calorie choco chip coooookie)…

IMG_8661

And a grande non-fat half-sweet vanilla Roobios tea latte

IMG_8660

These are decaf and tres yummy.  :)

Great gab session with the girls!  One of these days we shall lasso Lex and Farm Girl into joining us!!  We miss you busy girls!!

At 8:45 we realized we were missing the all important and exciting Canada vs Russia hockey game so we headed out.

I ate up the leftover apple from this morning with a scoop of Dark Chocolate Dreams peanut butter

IMG_2717

And a big bowl of Smart Pop.  nom.

IMG_2729

Not a very satisfying “meal” but I’m going to keep myself glued to the TV and hope that the urge to snack runs away.

The game’s looking good people!!!  Currently 7-3 in our favour, but we still have half a period to get through.  It’s so stressful!!

Here’s what I think of Russia right now:

Carnivore

Congratulations to Ashleigh McIvor!!  GOLD in x-skiing!!  Now just share that with the men’s hockey team and you’ll have some super happy Canadians!

Today’s headache hung around most of the afternoon.  Gah.  Finally, after I picked FH up from work I let my ponytail down and that totally helped!  I forgot how heavy my hair gets when I grow it out.  I’ve got A LOT of hair!

Afternoon snack was another deeeelish Kashi cookie

IMG_2686

and a bosc pear

IMG_2687

After slogging through some afternoon work I asked FH if he would mind going out for a burger.  I had a craving something fierce!  I actually think that this craving might be what was making me all snacky yesterday.  I knew I wanted something but wasn’t sure what.  Turns out it was a big juicy burger.  Hello protein!!

We hit up The Armview

IMG_8655

And went all out on the “feed the beast” craving.  Shared mozzarella sticks

IMG_8654

I had the Classic burger with ketchup, mustard and fried onions.  To which I added bacon and cheddar…

IMG_8656

With crispy fries (and yes, that is a side of mayo!)…

IMG_8657 IMG_8659

I ate the whole thing!!  Funny enough I’m not even all that full.  Bottomless pit, anyone?l

Now hopefully I’ve got that out of my system!!  It’s not often I eat beef and even more rare that I crave it.  Sometimes you just gotta!

Good thing I have a make-up cardio session with the girls tomorrow night!!

Now to take in the Canada vs Germany hockey game where our boys are going to make up for that sad showing vs USA!

Eat Like a Soldier

This post sponsored by FH!  Something a little different for y’all!!

Eat Like a Solider Day!

When FH was away for training in November he brought home some treats for the blog.  Military issue Individual Meal Packagesaka: IMPs.

These packages have been sitting on top of our cupboards ever since.  Honestly because I was afraid!!  These packages are reportedly like 3000 calories each!!  I mean, they are intended to feed starving soldiers that have been toiling away in the boonies under serious physical duress for a couple of days.  Those boys need their big eats.  Um, but this girl does not!

So last night we chatted about it and agreed that today we would open them up, but I didn’t need to feel obligated to chow down.  Taste testing, sharing and tossing out were all viable options.

Phew!

FH felt that I needed to be dressed like a soldier in order to make this authentic.  How unflattering!

IMG_2620

We had breakfast, lunch and dinner packages.  Each package has the main meal, dessert, bread, and all kinds of condiments, drinks, treats, etc.

IMG_2584 IMG_2591 IMG_2595 IMG_2598

The main meals and desserts are boil-in-bag (but can also be eaten cold which is generally what ends up happening because of time constraints in the field).

IMG_2597

I was happy to discover that the meals themselves were no more than a few hundred calories each.  If you ate every last bite of stuff included in the package I think you might top out at 1500 calories per meal.  Still high for a normal day, obviously…but not so scary for our tasting party!

IMG_2588

Breakfast consisted of Sausage & Hashbrowns

IMG_2602

Review:  not too bad at all.  Kind of just tastes like those breakfast sausages you would get at Denny’s or some place like that.  The potatoes are a bit mushy, but all in all totally edible.  I had a few bites.

IMG_2609

Lunch was Chicken & Gravy…which I apparently didn’t photograph.

Review:  gross.  Chicken floating in flavoured water.  Water flavoured like what I think cat food would taste like.  Neither of us made it past one bite.

Dinner was Beef Bourguignon

IMG_2607

Review:  Well, it ain’t Julia Child’s beef bourguignon but it was tasty enough.  Basically tasted like Chunky soup.  Beef and spuds in beefy sauce.

IMG_2611

Side dishes were strawberry oatmeal, buttered rice, onion flavored mashed potatoes, and cream of celery soup.  Each of these is just an add water thing.

Oatmeal was yummy (haha, of course).  It was actually “crispy cereal” which can be mixed with hot or cold water.  We used hot and I ate almost the whole thing.  It was better than regular instant oatmeal!  Kind of granola-like.

IMG_2605

Rice was fine.  Like minute rice.  I hate that it actually said “MSG added” on the package.  I don’t wanna know!

IMG_2589

The potatoes smelled horrible and tasted worse.  Blech.

IMG_2612

Same with the soup. Disgusting.  Although I did get a mouthful of undisolved powder so maybe that did me in. I spared you a photo.

And then there is the bread.  The bread that is packed up airtight with one of those anti-moisture packets you might find with your new shoes.  FH calls it the “good for 10 years bread”.

IMG_2590IMG_2604

I don’t want to know what they put in it, but it was actually fine.  Looked like bread, tasted like bread.  I had a couple of bites but it freaks me out so I stopped.  LOL.

FH also stirred himself up one of the powdered drinks.  Basically it’s a Gatorade-type mix for the soldiers to keep their electrolytes up.  This one looked just like Tang!

IMG_2622

We saved the desserts and a bunch of the condiment packages.  No peanut butter in this selection but lots of honey and such.  We threw out the instant coffee and powdered creamers. There is a mint hot chocolate I have dibs on!

FH got the Hershey bar treat from the lunch kit and I get the Peak Freans from dinner.

IMG_2594

At the end of our “meal” I said that all in all it’s not terrible.  I mean it’s not like they can eat gourmet in the field, but it’s nice to know that most things taste pretty good.  Too bad for all of the preservatives and lack of vegetables (that’s why the desserts are fruit I’m guessing) but everything is designed by dieticians so I’m sure they have their reasons for everything.

Pretty fun experiment though!!

(don’t worry I only had a few bites of everything…I’m guessing maybe 400 calories worth…if that)

Followed a little later by a yummy green smoothie to help flush out all of that sodium…

IMG_2623

The basic green:  ice, 1/2 banana, flax, Amazing Meal, spinach, UVAB

IMG_2626

And dinner tonight was just some leftover Chicken Alfredo

IMG_2627

Canada vs USA in Olympic Hockey tonight!  I think a few snacks might be needed for this!!  There is a bag of popchips with my name on it. I hope it’s a tense game that ends well for our Canuck boys!!
