Last night my girlfriends Sarah, Cosette and I headed out for a girlie night. A yummy Thai feast followed by a chick flick. Good times! :)
Thankfully I took it light on the eating throughout the day and actually got a good workout in despite my lower back issue.
I hit the gym for 25 sweaty minutes on the elliptical…avoiding the treadmill because I fear the impact might slow down my recovery. And since I missed a couple of days of Intro to Iron this week I decided to make-up the missed leg day.
In order to make sure not to aggravate my pain I just took things slow, left out one exercise, and lowered my weights on a couple of things. I’m happy to report that I walked away pain-free and feeling good.
Afterwards I decided to grab a small smoothie from Booster Juice…
This was the snack size (12oz) Terminator. It was alright. I wouldn’t order it again. Sorta boring…needs more banana!
At home I grabbed a blueberry Clif Zbar from the mother load stash a la Krista…
Yummy! :)
Honestly, I did not eat enough throughout the day. My bad. But don’t worry…I totally made up for it at dinner!
When I wrote about Talay Thai a while back, several people commented that we should also try Cha Baa Thai. Cosette had been my girl-date to Talay and she also thought Cha Baa was better. So obviously we had to check it out!
We ordered basically the same dishes (we all have our favourites, right?!) and in comparison I do think Cha Baa is better. Not to say Talay was bad though…I enjoyed both…but Cha Baa did tip the scale just a little bit. :)
We shared 5 dishes…
Started with the spring rolls…
I actually liked Talay’s dipping sauce better, but the rolls themselves were comparable.
Pad Thai with prawns…
I liked the big pieces of tofu in Cha Baa’s version.
Red Curry with chicken…
The pieces of chinese eggplant were perfectly cooked, slightly meaty and very flavourful. This is my personal favorite dish…and it did not disappoint.
Lemongrass Chicken…
This dish was the main reason Cosette wanted to go back to Cha Baa. When we ordered this at Talay she was a bit disappointed because she had recently had it at Cha Baa and felt theirs was much better.
I agree. Cha Baa’s version had more of that lemongrass flavour and a stickier texture. Both enjoyable though!
Here we also ordered a plate of the Cashew Veggies for a bit of extra greens…
These were tasty, but I felt this dish was a bit small and of course we should have asked for no green peppers because two of us don’t like them and for some reason whenever an Asian dish includes green peppers they always seem to dominate. Why is that?
My plate (plus another scoop of rice & curry)…
My beer (x2)…
Any which way I spin it, I’d be happy to go back to either restaurant for a Thai feast. I love it!!
After dinner we walked over to the theatre to see Valentine’s Day. Sarah and I both have inappropriate crushes on Taylor Lautner so felt it necessary to see the movie. LOL.
I thought it was good! Fun cast, cute storylines, kind of romantic. Who cares what the critics say? It’s not like anyone goes into these movies thinking they are winning an Oscar or something.
Jennifer Garner beating the shit out of that pinata made the whole movie anyway. :)
There might have been some peanut butter M&Ms that made their way into my pocket on the way into the movie. nom!!

Sounds like fun! I have an inappropriate crush on Robert Pattinson.
That sounds like a very fun night! And I'm with you on the chick flick movies. They are meant for fun, light hearted viewing pleasure...not any high hopes of Oscars.
I am glad you liked the movie! I can't wait to see it!
Loooove cha baa! Your review has me wanting some thai, (but not military food)
Looks super good! I prefer vietnamese food, but thai is a close second!
Oh Ali, what I wouldn't give for a big bowl of Pho. I haven't found a recommended Vietnamese place here yet but I keep looking!
