Yesterday Today Tomorrow

I have just returned from yet another yummy meal out where I totally ate too much. One of these days I need to relearn how to listen to my body. Since losing the ability to regularly workout I have unintentionally learned how to compensate with overeating. This does not make for a healthy balance.

Yesterday started out with fabulous intentions (as all Mondays do, right?) even though outside looked like this…

IMG_2566

I really had intended on trying to make a trip to the gym to start on my limited amounts of cardio.  But I woke up to a power outage and tweets-galore about how ridiculous traffic was because of the storm.  So instead I drank coffee…

IMG_2572

Made banana date pecan oatmeal…

IMG_2574

Snacked on mini oranges…

IMG_2577

And hydrated with warm herbal tea…

IMG_2580

Leftovers helped make dinner healthy in a hurry.  Chicken and gravy on a toasted bagel, served with leftover roasted veggies and a fresh batch of roasted broccoli and carrots.

IMG_2582IMG_2588

The bagel was awful and the broccoli was worse.  Not sure what went wrong other than maybe they were both older than I recollect.

After dinner my friend Marcus came by to help me move my Winter tires from my storage locker to my car.  We braved the utterly awful wind just long enough to load the tires then ran back in for warmth and comfort.  He brought belated birthday chocolates and hot chocolate (apparently he didn’t get my “it’s Monday and I’m trying to be healthy” memo!).

IMG_2589IMG_2592

Four chocolates are missing.  He ate ONE.  Bloody hell. Then I wrestled with another bout of insomnia and ate half a box of Multigrain Wheat Thins around 1am.  How to you break a snacking in bed habit?  This one is new to me and I struggle every night!

Today was another new day.  Insomnia left me feeling lethargic and mopey this morning but I had a car appointment to get to…which forced me out into the fresh air.  I even opted to walk the 20 minutes to home. :)  Sporting my fave toque and fuelled by coffee along the way of course…

IMG_2593IMG_2616

See how that’s a venti?  Go big or go home apparently.

Breakfast was healthy and fabulous. Strawberry Chobani I carted home from Seattle with banana and Kashi Honey Almond Flax.

IMG_2622

When I got hungry for a snack I cracked open the first of my Trader Joe’s loot…Almond Butter.  But not just any AB…the highly touted crack version featuring toasted flax seeds and roasted almond chunks.  Holy heck.

IMG_2628

Multiply that dish by like three and then count licking the spoon. Yum.

Lunch was a carby affair that I like to call Leftover Mashup.  Leftover roasted chicken mixed with leftover red curry…tossed with penne.

IMG_2632

Tried to walk it off with a trek back to the shop to pick up my car…but didn’t make it past Starbucks without another egg nog misto in my hand.  Can we say addict?

All of that alone would have been fine followed by a light and healthy dinner, but nooooo I had to decide to invite Tiffaney out for dinner (all in the name of next month’s foodie.ca post) and totally overdo it.

Mixed fries…chipolte mayo.

IMG_2639

Look! Healthy salad! Ignore the creamy feta dressing.

IMG_2641

Chicken soup.  Giant chicken soup.  With rice dumplings.  Extra giant rice dumplings.

IMG_2644

And here I sit with a full tummy and chicken soup bobbing in my eyeballs!

Maybe tomorrow will be the day.  At least there are only two dumplings left in the soup.

Almost There

Sooooo close to being caught up on the posting.  I’m not a fan of being three days behind!  And I’m certain it’s annoying for you all to read.  Good news is, I’m heading home to Halifax on Friday so things should be back to normal by Sunday.  Bad news is, 20 condos viewed and I haven’t bought one.  Ugh.

Monday was actually back to work for me.  Yes I have a coolio job that can be done from anywhere with an internet connection…well almost anywhere…but definitely Mom’s kitchen table.  :)

Look at the supah cute coffee mug I discovered in her cupboard…

IMG_9112

Filled with Starbucks Cafe Verona and a splash of chocolate milk.

I’m a bad girl and didn’t have breakfast.  Working away with my coffee and water…next thing I knew it was like 11am!  I’m so out of my routine!!  So I had leftover Chinese Food

IMG_9114

Um, and a deeeeelish chocolate from RogersEmpress Square…caramel and almonds in milk chocolate.  Oh, you would have eaten it too!!

IMG_9115 IMG_9118

Oh look!  Fruit!!

IMG_9119

After work Mom and I headed out for our annual steak dinner in celebration of her birthday.  Nom!  Her birthday isn’t until Thursday but since I’m travelling we had to do it a bit early.  This year we opted for The Keg.

IMG_9122

Keg Size Caesars to start…

IMG_9120 IMG_9121

Deeeeelish Keg bread (although they seem to have changed it slightly…still warm and fabulous though)…

IMG_9124

I opted for my all time fave appetizer…Mushrooms Neptune.  I used to order this and salad bar as a meal when I was a kid.  :)

IMG_9125

Mom’s crazy MASSIVE Shrimp Cocktail

IMG_9126

Keeping up with my rich and decadent theme, I chose the Steak Oscar for dinner.  Yup, sirloin covered in bearnaise sauce with shrimp, scallops, and asparagus.  With garlic mashed potatoes because it wasn’t rich enough already!

IMG_9129  IMG_9128

Mom opted for the Blue Cheese Filet…by the description she expected just a bit of cheese and garlic broiled atop the steak, but it came as more of a “puff”.  Tasty, but overwhelming.  Still a filet mignon under there though!

IMG_9127

We also shared the asparagus and sauteed mushrooms.

IMG_9131IMG_9132

Finished with decaf coffee and then seriously almost waddled out of there.  I took leftovers but I still felt like I’d packed away two days worth of food!!

IMG_9133

There may or may not have been birthday Blizzards consumed later that night.  :)  You’ll never really know.

Fun fact:  The reason we like steaks at The Keg is mainly because they are one of the only restaurants that can do a proper Chicago style steak – seared dark on the outside, cooked to order on the inside.  In my case, medium-rare in the middle because with the Chicago outside the middle still keeps cooking.  It’s the bestest!!

Meat eatershow do you like your steak?

Food Baby

And just like that, it’s 6:30pm!  Blam.

I swear I woke up still full from last night’s Healthy Slow Cooker meal.  It was so yum!  I sipped on coffee for the first bit of the morning…

IMG_4074

Until my tummy was finally ready for some breakfast.  Kept it simple with sourdough toast with PB & banana

IMG_4075

One of my favouritest and bestest friends, Phillypants (probably more obviously known as Phil), is in town for business today…so I ran downtown for a quick visit before he had to head of the convention centre.

When I got home I made a super-power smoothie!  It was hearty, deeeelish, and full of good for me power foods.

IMG_4077

In the KA today:  ice, frozen banana, spinach, chia, flax meal, Chocolate Amazing Meal, and UCAB.

IMG_4079

I underestimated the filling power of this green beast and made a small snacky plate to go along with it.

Crack hummus, pita chips, and leftover sweet potato fries.

IMG_4080

That meal was 3+ hours ago and I still feel like I’m toting a food baby around in there.

Around 5pm a slump was trying to take me down, so I grabbed my water bottle to hydrate up and then (contradictory) made a quick iced coffee to perk me up.

IMG_4083

Cold coffee I saved in the fridge mixed with vanilla soy milk…served in the coolio Texas cup I received from Janna when she sent along the Girl Scout Cookie package.  Perfect for icy cold bevvies!

So the rest of the evening is a little up in the air.  Phil and I have plans to hang out when he’s done with his work shiz, but not entirely sure when he’ll be done.  If I eat at home, it will be leftovers from last night…if we are out who knows!  There’s talk of a little Lower Deck action with his coworkers.  Nothing like drinking on a Tuesday night. haha.

Needless to say, probably no blog recap this evening.  See y’all tomorrow!

Tummy.So.Full

It was a HUGE food day in my world today.  I’m sitting here feeling the after-effects from a rich, delicious dinner that I didn’t have to prepare.  Yum!

Started the day by meeting a couple of the Halibloggers (Angie, Farm Girl, Tasha) plus a couple of hubbies and our friend Sarah for breakfast at Cora’s.  We love ourselves some Cora’s.

I used to always choose the fruit loaded waffle, but once I discovered Theo’s veggie omelette I’ve had trouble passing it up.  Started with coffee of course…then the omelette and a side of bacon.  The meal comes with pan fries, a bit of fruit, and toast.  I ate more toast than usual, but did save about 1/3 of my omelette and 1/2 my potatoes to bring home.

I figured this was going to be my main meal today so wasn’t overly concerned how big it was…um, until FH offered to make dinner.  His dinners are delicious, but his forte is rich and dreamy Italian food.  Look out tummy, it’s a comin!  :)

He calls these his stuffed shells.  The filling is a spinach & ricotta mixture, then he adds his own homemade tomato sauce, and finishes the dish with alfredo.  He brought me my plate before I had a chance to sneak into the kitchen and photograph the meal out of the oven…so instead my plate photos are a bit blurry.  Too bad because the presentation was really nice!

043 045 046

With a glass of red wine of course.  Just a small glass for me…hit the spot just perfectly.

042

After dinner FH mentioned he had considered buying ice cream for dessert but didn’t.  I was totally fine with that since ice cream and I need to take a little break.  But about an hour later I was still craving dessert and remembered this little treat hiding in the cupboard…

050

Yes, OREO Jell-O pudding!  FH loves Oreo ice cream so when I saw this at the store a while back I picked it up as a surprise for him, then totally forgot about it.  Tonight I whipped up some chocolate whip cream to go on top too.  Pretty yummy treat for something I made in under 5 minutes!  :)

051

Now I’m sitting here in another food coma.  This storm had better pass by tonight because there’s an hour of cardio on my workout schedule for tomorrow!

In between brunch and dinner I also had a Starbucks stop (double tall vanilla non-fat latte), a bowl of cherries (deeeeelish), and made a batch of yummy no-cook granola bars (recipe tomorrow) (I only ate two today, thank God!).

028 030 038

Now I must go lay like broccoli (that will make sense to any Pretty Woman fans) and try to stay awake for at least an hour so I can sleep like a normal person tonight.  zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz.
