Mama Day

This morning I was ever so rudely awakened by my phone ringing at the ungawdly hour of like 8:35am. Pffft. ;)  I decided it was OK though because it was a florist calling to arrange a delivery time.  Woooo!

I was perplexed because Valentine’s Day was two days ago, and well…I don’t have a Valentine this year…so who the heck was sending me flowers?  This afternoon this super cute plant basket arrived…

IMG_6755

…from my Mama!  “just because she loves me”.  Isn’t she the best?!

Before that basket of sunshine arrived I toughed through my Wednesday conference call with coffeeeee…

IMG_6746

…half a whole wheat English muffin with sunflower butter and overripe banana…

IMG_6745

…and organic vanilla yogurt with fresh organic blueberries and walnut pieces.

IMG_6762

This afternoon’s lunch came care of the cancellation of last night’s dinner.  I had fresh halibut in the fridge that had to be cooked today.

IMG_6749

A gorgeous bowl of Italian Halibut Stew…today with added barley because I had it on hand.  A really great addition!

IMG_6751

Afternoon cheer.  Cheeeeep!

IMG_6758

I was positive I had an afternoon snack, but I have no photo evidence and after racking my brain for the last 20 minutes I’ve come to the conclusion that I must not have had anything. ha.

After work it was dinner time Mama Pea style!  I’ve been anticipating this meal all week… Sloppy Josephines!

IMG_6766

My grocery store only had two dried lentil options…so I went with organic green lentils.

IMG_6764

I had to sub balsamic for the red wine vinegar and didn’t bother buying BBQ sauce because I would never use the rest of it.

IMG_6785

The mixture came together very fast (after the 25 minutes for cooking the lentils…which I damn near overcooked!!) and very easily.  I made the full batch so I have leftovers for the weekend and a nice sized container in the freezer.

Keeping with keeping my grocery budget down I opted not to buy buns, but instead chose English muffins as my bread of choice this week…worked perfectly as a burger bun.

The best part of the whole thing was the tangy pickles squished right in there with the sloppy goodness.

IMG_6796

Looking pretty right now.  You should have seen me eat that bad boy.

IMG_6799

Sweet potato chips on the side.  Burger and fries healthy style, yo!

Thanks Mama Pea.  My belly was sufficiently stuffed and my taste buds were sufficiently satisfied.

The rest of my evening fell victim to TV, which never happens since I only get three channels and barely any of the shows I actually watch show up on those channels.  However, Survivor and American Idol do. :)

I curled up with the last of THE PIE and a dose of Boston Rob.

It may have been the strangest Tribal Council ever.  That Philip guy needs to go.  Like yesterday.

What blog?

Another Sunday night realization that I’ve been totally neglecting my poor blog.  I even ate out twice this weekend and didn’t even consider taking pictures.  Ooooops.  Well I was supposed to be in Vegas so I probably wouldn’t have posted until now anyway!

Instead I kept my broken arse at home and saw my bedroom renovations in action.  It sure didn’t compare to David Copperfield but it’s pretty cool.  :)  Photos to come I promise.

Look at the lovely flowers my Vegas travel partners sent…

Sweet right?

Stoopy and I camped out down the hall at Nicole’s again while the paint and sawdust was flying around.  He’s spent so much time down there I think he might just pack up his kitty litter and move in permanently.

IMG_1329

This upcoming week involves a massage by a new RMT, my first visit to a physiotherapist, a lot of salad, a lot of water, some weight watching (seriously…not being able to work out has caused my biggest gain in FOUR years…not cool), and finally….my housewarming party!  Oh, and a lot more finger crossing regarding my ridiculous arse injury.

Third Time’s a Charm

Just got back from the first of what I hope is many meet ups with Victoria bloggers!  I’m gonna need some new recruits when I finally get moved back here cuz I’m not sure Victoria is used to my crazy food photo antics!  :)

After months of chit chat I finally got to meet Jenny and Liane!!  Sorry no photos cuz we talked too much and I promised Liane I wouldn’t paparazzi her this time.  Hear that Liane?  THIS TIME ONLY!  Thanks ladies…it was great fun…see you again soon!

Back tracking to this afternoon…

I went for a walk as I promised.  Um, my walk may have taken me past Starbucks during Frappy Happy Hour

IMG_5520

I don’t even really like Frappucinos…I get brain freeze and I hate that you can suck all of the flavour out and be stuck with half a cup of icy yuck.  But for half price I was willing to try out one of their new concoctions…

IMG_5522

Talk about making it hard on the baristas!  You can modify the living snot out of these drinks now too.  haha.

IMG_5521

Grande non-fat extra coffee caramel blended something or other…with easy whip.  Insane.  And hilarious because next time I would order half-sweet and no drizzle!

It was good, but I had to let the second half melt down so I could finish it.  Stupid icy yuck.

It was BEAUTIFUL outside today…

IMG_5530 IMG_5526 IMG_5532 IMG_5536 IMG_5545

Admittedly I now owe Nicole a bag of Baked Ruffles because my frappy didn’t fill the hole at snack time this afternoon…

IMG_5548

For dinner, Tiffaney picked me up and we headed to one of our favourite spots…Ferris’s Downstairs.  We even got to sit out on the back patio because it was so lovely!

I don’t even need the menu.  The whole reason for going there is their Chicken Penne Soup.  Deeeeelicious spicy broth chock full of veggies, noodles, chicken and dumplings.  I always order an extra couple of dumplings…

IMG_9146 IMG_9147

With their house salad with homemade lemon feta dressing.  Best.dressing.evah!!!

IMG_9143 IMG_9144

Hilariously I’m wearing my “food paparazzi” t-shirt and the waiter totally busted me taking pics of dinner.  :)  The shirt works!

I plowed through that salad with reckless abandon.  haha.  And as always, saved half of the soup for tomorrow.  Although I can hear it singing to me from the fridge right now.

After dinner we headed on over to Starbucks to meet Liane and Jenny (yes, if you are paying attention that was THREE trips to Starbies today…I have issues).  I opted for a simple Vanilla Rooibos tea

IMG_9148

Um, and maybe a friggin huge apple fritter.  :)  I’m telling you…BEST DONUTS EVER.  EVER!  I promise I worked it all off by talking a lot. hahahaha.

IMG_9149

So now I’m enjoying my last chance to watch FoodTV before heading back to Halifax…land of the “pay for a whole stupid bundle just to get FoodTV so I don’t have FoodTV”.  What a nightmare for a food addict/TV addict!!!

And one last noteHAPPY BIRTHDAY MOM!!!

Garden Therapy

Yesterday afternoon went south. Bad. Fast. There were tears.

I did have a lovely dinner date with my friend Sarah over some mediocre sushi…but the photos are on my Blackberry and I’m sure you all know what a spicy tuna roll looks like.  :)

After a good night’s sleep and a couple of heated chats with my Mom, I woke up in a much better mood.  So I wrangled Arron to go have a nice greasy brunch (where I had bacon, scrambled eggs, pan fries and two pancakes I stole from him) and then took myself off to the Halifax Public Gardens to spend an hour in the sun with James Dean. (That’s my camera for those of you too lazy to click the link).

Trust me these are much better than recounting my cup of coffee, dinner of leftovers, or boring (but sweaty!) workout.  Really.  You should thank me!
