Hurricane Bill: Running Update

So far, so good.  I went to bed at 1:30 and nothing had happened.  Woke up for a minute around 5:30, still nothing…a bit of rain maybe.  Got up at 9:00, it was raining.  Around 10:30 the wind started.  It’s definitely whipping out there but we’ve had worse wind before.  I’m sure this is only the beginning though…there are reports of power outages in the HRM so probably those folks closer to the water are fairing worse than we are right now.

(FYI I’m still home alone…FH stayed downtown and I imagine they are sleeping right through this!)

I’m trying to take pictures of the weather progression, but it’s hard to tell anything exciting is going on…LOL.  Our rear neighbors left their Canadian flag up so that is fun to watch flailing around in the wind and rain.

The worst part is having to keep all of the windows closed.  It’s humid as all hell, but the wind blows the rain into the house if the windows are open.

I’m just chilling out with the TV, coffee, and some magazines.  I foresee a lot of reading in my future.

Keep checking in.  I’m bored so I’ll be updating on the weather as it progresses (IF it progresses).  :)

5pm Update:

Well, if that was the worst of it, I guess our area isn’t seeing too much actual hurricane.  I heard the eye of it was supposed to hit around 3pm, but I dozed off on the couch so I’m not sure what happened.  Since I woke up around 4pm to some loud wind I’m guessing that is it.  Of course, we still have all night!

In other news, when FH came home I decided to make brunch.  Just bacon and eggs.  But I burned the living F*#% out of my hand with the bacon grease.  I always pour off the grease and wipe the pan with a paper towel so I can cook the eggs, but the pan slipped out of my hand and knocked the grease dish somehow spilling it all over the palm of my hand.  I’ve gone through three ziplocks of ice and will probably go through 10 more tonight.  It effing hurts!

Bedtime Update:

Yup, that was it.  The rain stopped and wind died WAY down.  I guess our suburban community is far enough away from the ocean that we weren’t affected too much.  Reports of trees down in many other areas though so I feel lucky…even though I was super bored and whiny because of my hand.  At least my hand is starting to feel better now.  I can go more than 30 seconds without my ice so that’s something!  Hopefully by morning it won’t sting anymore.  :)

When in doubt, make muffins!

As I mentioned last night, FH and his buddy went to the bar around 1am.  Apparently they rolled in some time after 5am.  LOL.  I don’t know how they do it!  And they are out again tonight.  Nutty I tell ya.

Because I didn’t go out with them and had my lights out by about 1:30am I was up by 9:30 this morning.  I had almost 2 whole hours of the morning to myself with a pot of coffee, Thursday’s SYTYCD Canada, and my nail polish.  :)

I made a simple breakfast of yogurt, chopped apple, and fresh blueberries.

After I finished giving myself a much needed pedicure, I got cleaned up for the day and decided to make a batch of muffins.

Everything I bake for the next while is going to be raspberry.  :)

I decided to use Nicole’s Blueberry Chia Muffins recipe and change them up to Raspberry White Chocolate Chia Muffins.  I’m here to tell you…DEEEEELISH!  :)

They stick to the paper but other than that, yummmmy.  :)

FH’s friend from out of town arrived while I was baking…so after spending a bit of time chatting and what-not I got bored and wandered away from the man-chat.  hehe.  For lunch I ate my leftover Asian Slaw with half of a piece of salmon crumbled in.

032

By now it had gotten quite hot outside so I offered to go on the beer run for the boys (mostly so I could go to the air conditioned store…and make a run to Starbucks for myself..hehe).  It’s the weekend so my Iced Grande Vanilla Americano with skim milk was calling to me.  (OK, and maybe an espresso brownie called to me too…)

037 036

Instead of dinner I chopped up the meat and cheese FH picked up yesterday for the boys to snack on.  More Kettle Chips may have appeared as well, but because of the heat and my snacks earlier I wasn’t very hungry.  I ate a few pieces of each and a handful of the chips.  The rest has been wrapped up for tomorrow when the boys return.

038

I’ve just been on water for the evening and snacked my way through some Swedish Berries.  If Hurricane Bill doesn’t hurt us too bad overnight I should go to the gym tomorrow…it’s been a light workout week and heavy on the treats and my body won’t be thanking me for it!  Here’s hoping that nasty Bill cooperates!!

Hurricane Bill: Ready as I’ll ever be!

It was sooo beautiful most of today that you would never know that Nova Scotia is under a hurricane watch!  Calm before the storm I guess.  The grey clouds rolled in about an hour or so ago, but it’s still humid and breezy out there.

7pm:

043

FH has gone partying with the boys tonight and is staying in the city, so Mr. Stoopy and I will be braving the high winds alone.

Last we heard, the rain is expected to start sometime between 1am and 5am.  The 125-140 km/hour winds will start anytime after that.  The news reports are saying it might be downgraded to a Tropical Storm, but last we heard from our friend that works at the Coast Guard is that we are in for a Category 1 Hurricane.  Either way it’s gonna be yucky!

Needless to say, the entire city has stocked up on water, batteries, canned goods and propane…and all day today we watched all of our neighbors clear their decks and tie down their BBQs.

Our garage has been loaded up with most of our outdoor equipment…BBQ, compost bin, garbage bins, deck chairs, etc.

040 041

I brought my hanging baskets and garden lanterns in to the front stairwell…

039

And the deck planters are now living on my kitchen floor…

042

I didn’t bother buying bottled water since we have a perfectly good camping jug…

044

If things get really bad we have our camping stove, lantern, etc to keep us going (right next to our wine collection!)…

045

So I’m as ready as I’ll ever be.  I hope anyway!  For the evening I’m curling up with movies and my bag of Swedish Berries and enjoying having the couch to myself while the boys are out tearing up Halifax.  If you don’t hear from me again for a while, you know Hurricane Bill arrived and knocked out our power.  Wish me luck!
