Snow Day Giveaway!

So this morning I woke up to the biggest snow storm we’ve had all Winter here in Victoria.  What the heck?!  It was Spring here two days ago.  I saw cherry blossoms, damn you!

Most of the city is taking a snow day, and even though I work at home and snow days don’t really exist for me I still get caught up in the excitement my friends are feeling about staying home with their pj’s, kids, or good books.

I had plans for a giveaway this week anyway, but this just made it seem even more appropriate.  Who wants a good book?!

Not long ago The Pioneer Woman, Ree Drummond, released her new book Black Heels to Tractor Wheels based on her true life love story.  Expanding on the wildly popular serial memoir Confession of a Pioneer Woman, Ree’s memoir covers everything from her giddy twenty-something days dating surfer boys to the night she first met her husband, Marlboro Man, to their hot-and-heavy courtship and wedding. The book picks up where the website leaves off, telling the story of their dream honeymoon in Australia and their first years as a married couple.

The Canadian publishing company sent me a copy of the book, and once I sat down to read it I pretty much didn’t want to put it down.  I read it over the course of three nights and was wishing for a second book in the series!  It’s an incredibly romantic, cute, and hilarious love story!

I know there are a lot of Pioneer Woman fans that read my blog so I asked if I could have another copy of the book for a giveaway and the Canadian publishers were happy to oblige.

So let’s make it easy!  Leave me a comment below telling me your favourite thing to do on an unexpected snow day.  Me, I love to bundle up for a walk in the white stuff, then come home to a hot cup of tea, a cozy blanket and a good book.

One entry per person. I will tally up the entries and choose a random winner this Friday, February 25, 2011 at 12:00 noon PST.  Make sure you leave me a way to contact you!! Contest open to Canadian residents only (sorry y’all).

Maybe I will read it again after my walk!

I love snow days!
I go back to bed then later (much later!) get hot chocolate and watch Love, Actually (I am not ashamed!).

I will also curl up with the Kobo and read all day in my pj's.

My favourite thing to do a snowy day is catch up on all my favourite tv shows and play with my iPad!

I tend to treat snow days as lazy days. Curl up with a blanket or four, my laptop for TV shows, and a hot cup of tea!

making a snowman with my 3 year old, snow angels, sledding, a good shoveling workout, then some hot cocoa...followed by snuggles on the couch of course!

Mmmm- snuggle under my blankets with my 2 furbabies, hot african red bush tea, and perhaps catch up on some trash tv!

On snow days I love sitting in my bay window watching my kids play in the front yard. Hate being out in snow, but as long as I'm warm inside looking at it, it's all good!

Yay snow day! I love to bake on snow days. I pore over all of my cookbooks and find a recipe I have all the ingredients for. Then I scarf it down with a cup of tea and a good book :)

Ha ha! Being that I live in south east texas (outside Houston), we don't get snow days often. WHEN WE DO.. it involves LOTS of playing in the stuff, hot cocoa, and finding some reason to order pizza!

Snow Day! I'd choose to make a warm Chai Latte at home and curl up with a good book.

I love snow days, I don't get them enough! SMU next to never closes and neither does my work unfort! But when I do get them there is nothing better than curling up on the couch with my favorite cozy blanket and watching an old movie and/or baking some yummy goodies.

OH yay!! This is the book I had on my "read next" list!!

Let's see, my fav thing to do on a snow day is to catch up on DVR recordings. I WISH that I had a pair of cross country skis because THAT would be the best thing to do on fresh white untouched fluffy snow - reminds me of when I was a kid living in the country where you could ski down the road if you wanted to :-)

I love watching the snow fall by enjoying the fact I am fortunate to have a warm place to call home, hot tea to drink, comfy jammies to lounge in, a warm blanket to snuggle up under and great friends on twitter to connect with :-)

Hmm.

Well, snow days are non existent now - Generally I panic, and make arrangements for child care last minute, then get to work.

IF snow days happened in my world, I'd spend the day playing, coloring, painting, making snow people and having fun! with a wee side of mommy time in there!

Snow days for me mean fun in the snow with the kids followed by popcorn and hot chocolate! I love me a snow day!

My most favorite thing to do in the snow. . . .

The moment I see the snow fall it brings me back to my days as a free spirited child. Building snowmen, igloos and making snow angels. Now that I have 2 gorgeous, fun and adventurous children. I still enjoy those fun days I had in the snow as a younger girl. Now I must say its even more enjoyable as a Mother. Just to watch the joy this time of year bring to them.

After the fun in the snow has ended we warm up in front of the fire pit sipping on hot cocoa reminiscing about the days when Mom and Dad were younger! These moments are definitely going to be cherished forever.

Thank you for this opportunity. I've been looking for another good book to read for quite some time. My email address is cutiemommad@hotmail.com

PS. I love your blogs!

I still have to teach on snow days (we don't close schools in Ottawa) but if I did have the day to myself I would bake, read blogs and play with my puppy.

we've had so many snowy days in nova scotia this winter ... but if we had a true, shut down the town, snow day, i would be curled up in my flannels pajamas, enjoying a delicious day-long nap! :)

Well, today I had to go to work! And even though I work from home, we had traning today so I actually had to drive somewhere - eek!

If I hadn't, I would have stayed in my pjs and had soup and grilled cheese for lunch!

ummm... go back to bed!! haha

I like to get bundled up and play outside with the dogs (makes paths in the snow - we were waist deep at one point this winter, fetch snowballs, etc)

Carol said...

I walk to work, so I don't get "snow days". At least it's quiet when I get to work!!

But I do love the scrunchie sound your feet make in the snow as you walk.
Does this count??

I loved the snow day today...and I think it might be my last as we are moving to Calgary next month and I don't think they stop for snow like we do here! Today we stayed home from work, snuggled, went for a walk and stopped at the pub...came home and had a nap...seriously perfect day! I would love to read more about the Pioneer Woman...pick me!! Cheers!

Is it wrong that I'm so excited for a giveaway that says "Canadians only"?? Ahaha!

Being in Winnipeg, we have lots of snowstorms but very rarely a snowday. Those damn plows make it out fast enough for us to go places, boo. However, I've been known to steal a snow day here & there and I love to go for a snowy walk on a path near my condo. I love to make soup and drink hot chocolate and sit on the sofa with my laptop while decreasing the fullness on my PVR. Or of course, curling up with a good book!!

Laura said...

I never get snow days either! During my school days, I loved going back to bed, then spending the day in my PJs and a good book.

I love snow days too! ! We got to come home 2 hours early from school today!!

So right now I'm reading blogs, and about to do homework!! (UGGG)

Great giveaway, how fun!?

I LOVE snow days!!! We don't get them here (I'm a teacher - buses get cancelled but the schools are ALWAYS open). I make my way slowly to school, and enjoy my day with the 3 or 4 eight year olds that have their parents drop them off at school. We get caught up on all kinds of work, and I have a chance to actually have fun with them and get to know them a bit better :) If I had snow days though, I would definitely curl up with a hot chocolate and watch all the morning shows (Regis and Kelly, The View, trashy soaps) under a blanket :)

I love snow days, but don't get them often enough! A downside of healthcare...we're considered essential!

If I do get one (on a day off of course, because I would never call in sick on a snow day *cough cough*), I like to curl up on the couch in front of the fire with a HUGE cup of tea (very milky and three sugars, thank you very much), a good book (or two or three) and my kitty. I'll read for a bit, maybe nap, knit for a bit...maybe have a shower and change into clean jammies around 4.

If the roads are still drivable though--Snow days are best spent on the ski hill playing in the powder!

I loved the online version of this book and can't wait to read more! Pick me! Pick me!

H =)

Hi :)

On snow days I like to bundle up my little boy and take him out through the fresh snow on his sled!

Working in health care I rarely get a snow day. But when it snows on the weekends, I love to go outside and take pictures of the beauty! We get lots of snow in Ontario so there's always a chance to take pics of puppies frolicking in the snow, or the snow on the trees, or the snow on the lake, or people skating in market square. True beauty!

Syl said...

curl up with the fireplace blasting and a girly movie, with a warm beverage, but wine works too ;-)

Melanie said...

Snow days for me mean cuddling with my 2 1/2 year old daughter watching too many episodes of Dora the Explorer or My Little Pony :)

Sarah said...

My favourite thing to do on an unexpected snow day? Nothing.

Stay in pj's, drink a pot of coffee and be lazy!

SmallTownDi said...

Oooh fun! This book is popping up all over the place!

So, I don't really get true snow days as I am able to walk to work. However, if there's a big storm on a weekend it counts as a snow day in my world!

Throughout the day I would most definitely curl up with the dogs for a nap at some point and the kettle will be going constantly for tea to keep me warm. I must say, I'm not a big fan of winter but I do love hunkering down in a snow storm.

(PS I suppose the easiest way to reach me is through twitter - @RunDiRun)

My most absolute favorite thing to do on a snow day is to sleep in and then watch movies all day. Sadly I haven't had a snow day since high school! Apparently the government doesn't belive in them!
