Happy Christmas Eve!!
*insert festive music here*
Well, since my family celebrates Christmas on Christmas Eve I thought I should get this one last post in so I’m all caught up and can relax. Tonight we’ll partake in snacks, gifts, chatter, laughter and probably a few loud family arguments. :) I’m in charge of prepping all of the snacks so for the rest of the day I’ll be up to my elbows in onion dip, slicing cheese, and chopping veggies.
My cold is getting better. I’ve been doubling up on the Tylenol Cold & Flu pills and they are working. At least I won’t be blowing my nose all over the family tonight. (I know, lovely image right?)
The last couple of days have been “OK” foodwise, but like I said yesterday I don’t like to compromise at Christmas so the lack of exercise is being accepted and instead I’ll just be OK with a small gain when I get home. Hopefully I’ll be able to get at least a couple of walks in over the coming days…we shall see.
Anywho…
If you are going to have a fast food burger…a Mama burger with cheese never disappoints. haha.
We found these super cute mini pineapples at the supermarket. $6 each though so we didn’t buy one.
Last night I met my Nanaimo girlfriends Melinda and Christy for dinner at Gina’s Mexican Cafe. I’ve been going there for years, but just last year I discovered their fish tacos. Holy yum!!! I ate the two halibut tacos with guacamole but left pretty much all of the beans/rice/corn. Mel and I sat there with our water for like an hour after dinner just catching up and chatting. Thanks to Gina’s for not kicking us out for hogging up a table!
Melinda brought me a treat from her favorite chocolate store too!
Got all of my wrapping done last night so today’s all about the food prep. Can’t wait to sit down and see the family tonight. Tomorrow Mom and I just chill out and watch movies, and our turkey dinner will be on Boxing Day.
Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays to you all!!!

Wobbling on the Track
Silly cold has totally killed my plans for “balance” for this trip! I really didn’t want to majorly compromise on indulgent holiday eating so the plan for this year was EXERCISE. Not that food would be a free-for-all because that’s just not my style anymore, but I was hoping to keep things levelled out with portion control and a few extra holiday workouts.
My cold has other plans.
Kinda tough to fit in an outdoor run while wheezing up a lung. I can’t even do a proper yoga session because anything slightly inverted or hanging causes my head to pound.
I guess I’ll survive with some basic crunches and the hope that this will pass quickly. Until then I’m trying to eat mindfully…having said that though, some mother/daughter visit traditions may be working against me. :)
Monday was pretty good throughout the main part of the day. (Most photos are brought to you by my Blackberry as I forgot my camera at the Gingerbread party…)
I was still at Tiff’s and still working so I had simple breakfast of Red River cereal. Warmed the tummy.
Cooked with 1/2 banana and topped with a spoonful of peanut butter. Deeeeelish.
With tea, green juice, and a couple of cookies for mid-morning snack…
For lunch I met Tiff next door at Buon Amici’s for a going away sammich. I opted for the ham panino…which is essentially a ham and cheese sandwich on a yummy bun…
With a few rippled chips…
And a small 1% vanilla latte…
Later in the day I connected with Ingmarie and Alex for a ride to my Mom’s house in Nanaimo. I snacked on the second half of my banana and some water before the car trip.
As per our tradition, Mom and I ordered up some Chinese take-out for dinner. We do this almost every time I’m home and we almost always order from the same place. Unfortunately it seems as though the restaurant has changed hands again and this time they’ve changed their recipes…and not for the good.
I hate when I splurge on something and then it doesn’t live up to expectations. Oh well. $50 worth of take-out wasn’t going to waste so we ate up.
Although we did throw out the Almond Chicken. It was completely inedible. Boooooo. (the universe must have telling us we didn’t need deep fried battered chicken!!!)
My cold hit hard that night so we finished dinner with a light treat of homemade peppermint marshmallows that Ingmarie made and then I promptly hit the sack.
I was exhausted but slept terribly. I think I was actually excited to get out of bed when my alarm went off just so I could get away from that awful sleep. Bugger. I need some sort of workout to tire my body out naturally…and to help kick the stuffed sinuses!
How is everyone making out with your holiday temptations?
