Roller Coaster

Today went from a little weird, to good, to irritating, to wickedly pizzed off, to productive.

Weird was being woken up by an earthquake! Nothing serious but it’s the only about the fourth one I’ve felt in my whole life and probably the second strongest.  My whole apartment building shook and my bed wobbled around for a good thirty seconds.  It almost felt like I was on a water bed!

I dozed back off and woke up when my alarm went off 20 minutes later.

Good was sipping coffee and getting straight to work on that grapefruit I mentioned last night.  Another bright idea from the Jump Start menus…broiled grapefruit.

So easy.  Cut grapefruit in half, drizzle with 1 tsp honey, broil until bubbling and slightly browned.  Served with Squirrelly toast with sunflower butter.

It was so delicious!  A lot of it probably has to do with getting a good, sweet grapefruit but eating it warm was excellent.  Super duper juicy and messy (don’t eat it at your desk!  trust me.)!

Irritating was because the battery in my car died.  Around 1:30 I went to head for the gym and my car wouldn’t turn over.  I’ve known for a while that my battery was on it’s last legs but I didn’t expect that it was just crap out overnight.  Whoops.

That wasn’t too bad because I called CAA and they were here in like 5 minutes.  What was irritating was that I drove all the way to Costco only to find they don’t install batteries anymore…I guess it’s been oh, like 10 years since I’ve needed one. ha.

So instead I came home to put on warmer clothes and walking shoes and took my car to my own garage, which is within walking distance of home.  It actually all worked out because I took James Dean with me and stopped at a park along the way to work on my photography class project.

I even treated myself to a half-sweet, non-fat hazelnut misto for the walk home.

It was really late in the day when I finally got my lunch…a quick mix of some of last night’s dinner ingredients.  Quinoa, arugula, red onion, red pepper, with olive oil and fresh lemon juice.

Wickedly pizzed came along due to bad customer service from my garage.  Around 4:45 they left me a voicemail that I could come grab my car, so I checked their website to see when they closed.  It said 5:30 so I kept working and left here at 5:10 to walk back over there.

I arrived at 5:24 and they were CLOSED!!  The sign on their door also says 5:30 so I called in the hopes that someone was still in the office.  No go.  But the voicemail kindly informed me that they close at 5pm.

ARGH.  I left them a polite yet annoyed message saying it would have been awesome had they let me know their hours when they called me 15 minutes before closing and left me a voicemail to pick up my car.

I left freaking fuming and walked back home.

The only saving grace of that whole situation was that I got to see a pretty fabulous sunset.

I calmed myself with an email to a friend and a chunk of Trader Joe’s dark chocolate.  It helped!

Productivity was created from my mood.  I channelled my anger into two loads of laundry, sorting a box of junk in my hallway, and tidying my hall closet.  By the time Glee started I was calm and hungry.

Another Jump Start inspired meal.  I know, shocking right?! ;)  A simple black bean wrap.

IMG_6464

2/3 cup black beans (rinsed and drained) mixed with a squeeze of lime, cumin, red pepper flakes, and fresh Italian parsley….spooned onto a large whole wheat tortilla.  Topped with 1/2 oz. of shredded light cheddar and warmed in the oven.

Completed with salsa and light sour cream.

Served with red pepper strips and baby carrots.  Holy fiberific!

So tomorrow I get to walk over there AGAIN to get my car…and I’ve now missed out on a workout because I have massage tomorrow and can’t make up the missed session.  The garage better be kissing my feet about this one.  Dirty buggers!
