Friday morning I had to pack up kitty and move us down the hall for the day. My building is being processed for carpenter ants and lucky me my apartment was one of the ones hit. Oddly, I don’t have ants in my place. All for the good of the building!
Thankfully Stoopy and I are quite at home at Nicole’s place!
There was some miscommunication by the management company though and I didn’t know I wouldn’t have time to eat breakfast before we had to leave, so a nectarine and coffee on the run had to do!
When lunch came around I wanted something hearty but still healthy. Since I wasn’t allowed back in my apartment I walked to the mall and hit up the food court. I’m sorta addicted to Opa!
Greek chicken pita wrap with Greek salad. Soooooo good!! The cucumber was so fresh and delicious. Always a shocker when getting mall food!
The afternoon was spent doing something much more fun…volunteering at Great Canadian Beer Festival!
If you volunteer you get free admission when you aren’t working. Perk! This year I was a Booth Steward…working in a booth taking tokens and pouring beer. Sooooo fun but man I’m an old lady. My creaky body remembers why I’m not a server anymore!!
Me, Rose and Tiffaney. Girlies working together!
By the time we finished our shifts, six hours had passed and the sun had gone down. We were hungry and freezing so we headed for the closest restaurant we could think of…Saigon Night. Bring on the hot and steamy Vietnamese food!
Tiffaney ordered up Deep Fried Tofu with a fresh ginger sauce…but we helped make a big dent in it!
For my meal I took her suggestion and tried the Hot and Sour Soup. There are big chunks of pineapple and fresh tomato in there…with celery, chicken, lettuce, bean sprouts and rice noodles. Totally hit the spot and we all left with leftovers.
We finished our evening at a backyard party hosted by one of the local brewers. It was dark so I didn’t bother breaking out the camera…but I did discover that I’m a pretty big fan of Saltspring Island Heatherdale Ale.
A busy start to a busy weekend!!

The soup looks great! Hot & sour's one of my favorites, and I've been laying off it because it's not exactly a summer food, but your picture & the dropping temperatures make me think it's time to meet again! ;) Thanks!
I too had Opa this weekend, yum! You look super cute in your beer shirt, what a great volunteer gig!
That soup looks awesome! Looks like you had a pretty awesome weekend
that's my choice whenever we go there..
I'm not a drinker so the beer fest wouldn't be my kinda thing, but your life is way more interesting than mine, haha!
I would like to ask you, if you don't mind answering, what you would do with them if you had two boxes of apples from your trees outside? Guess what I have two boxes of? I already know pie and applesauce, but I'm sure there's more interesting things to make with them. Suggestions?
