CCCRT = Colossal Cross-Country Road Trip :)

Mileage:  453 km

Farewell to Nova Scotia

Welcome to New Brunswick

Even though the Halifax morning was dull and dreary, the sun appeared and stayed through our whole drive.

I missed the turnoff for the World’s Largest Blueberry…such is life.  But I did catch a glimpse of this sweet car…

IMG_9520

My road treat/refreshment was an Iced Half-Sweet Vanilla Latte from McDonald’s.  Yes, McDonald’s.  And it was tasty!

Stoopy fared well on his first day on the road.  He hung out cage-free on the passenger seat most of the afternoon…until the sun started to bake him…at which time he decided my lap was the better place to be.

He really is not thrilled with this whole situation but he’ll survive.  Once we arrived at Tara’s he chilled in the cool, shady car for a while and then came in and relaxed in her spare room.

And let me tell you people…this was a great place to spend my first night! Miss Tara cooked up an incredible meal.  Such the perfect hostess!

What What?  Yes, this is a Vegetable Cheesecake!  Recipe from the Moosewood Cookbook.  If you’ve never had a meal from Moosewood…you must.  Every vegetarian’s best friend.  Of course you don’t need to be a vegetarian to enjoy it…

Served with panzanella made with heirloom tomatoes and fresh basil from their herb garden.

Dining with another foodie and blogger makes me feel like less of a dork for taking food pictures!  :)

IMG_9544

She also made sure to have Strongbow on hand for me (talk about paying attention to what I like!) and we also shared this crazy local beer.  Melon Head.  Yes, melon beer.  The jury is out on this one…LOL.

IMG_9548

And if all of that was not enough, she made dessert!  And not just any dessert…a homemade French tart with fresh strawberries and fresh vanilla bean whipped cream. Feel free to drool now.

Seriously.  How freaking awesome is that?  And you guys were worried about me being on the road.  haha.  To top it off I got a few good laughs at this cutie-patootie…Samson…

IMG_9553

…oh…AND we watched True Blood. :)  Perfect end to a first day.

Thanks guys!

I'm going to have to find the recipe for that cheesecake! Makes me want to make friends with all of your friends and do my own trip across Canada :)

Yay, you made it and then made it to Montreal!! (the #victoriaboundblogger was a great idea BTW!)

Poor Mr. Stoopy doesn't look too impressed.

w00t w00t! You're on the road! Great photos, I'm glad the first day was clear and sunny.

Wait, hold up. McDonalds is doing Half-Sweet Iced Latte's?? Wha? Can you make it whatever you want, like a Starbucks almost? ~lol~

I hear you on the photo taking. I can't bring myself to snap shots when I'm with friends. I did it once last weekend with my Sis, and she looked at me like I was a little crazy...

My cat always liked to sit on my lap in the car, too. If he was nervous, which he usually was (being a cat in a car and all), he would sweat through his little toes, leaving tiny toe-prints on my legs. Do you have to buy kitty litter at each overnight stop?

I bought Crofter's Superfruit the other day, mostly because I have heard you rave about it so much!

It WAS really good (I bought the North American flavour). Yum!

Hey...will you go through Ottawa on Canada Day? That would be cool.

Tips! Though I am guilty of doing so when you get to Ontario, keep your ipod and cellphone and you camera ;-) too out of your hand. It's illegal and you can get a hefty ticket for it. Just FYI.

And seeing as you missed the big blueberry, maybe if you are coming along the 401 on your way to Toronto, you can stop in and see The Big Apple in Colborne Ontario. It's exit number 497.
