Brrrrrrr. I will NEVER get used to –14C. (um, –22C with the freaking wind chill). I’m cold. My poor West Coaster self just doesn’t have the inherent ability to accept these East Coast temperatures.
On the bright side, the skies were crystal blue and clear today and we saw a really pretty pink sky on the drive to FH’s work this morning. Of course, pretty does nothing to warm my toes! :)
Started the week off with a trip to the gym. Opted to switch up the cardio a bit (new shoes finally arrived so I won’t be bashing my joints on the treadmill after tomorrow!) and did power walking inclines instead of running…one minute per level/speed…
- Level 7 – 4.0mph
- Level 8 – 3.8mph
- Level 9 – 3.6mph
- Level 10 – 3.4mph
- Level 11 – 3.2mph
- Level 12 – 3.0mph
Then back down to Level 7, raising my speed back up to 4.0mph…and back up to Level 10 again…where the machine kicked into cool down mode and made me lose my rhythm. Total = 22 minutes.
I hate those automatic cool downs! I understand the need for a timer during busy periods, but there were 10 empty treadmills…no need for an auto shut-off. grrrr. Pet peeve.
Finished up with a good upper body workout and some planks…front and sides. Ouch.
Came home and just about dove into my hot cuppa coffee…
And then promptly put together a big bowl of Scottish Oatmeal…
In the pot: 1/2 cup unsweetened vanilla Almond Breeze, 1/2 cup water, 1/3 cup Scottish oats, 2 tsp flax meal, 1/2 banana.
Topped with brown sugar, hulled hemp seeds, and a splash more almond milk…
Deeeeeeelish. So creamy and yum!
That held me over for about 3 hours. I picked FH up early today so grabbed a Kashi bar on my way out to tide me over until lunch.
When we got back I heated up a bowl of homemade Corn Chowder…
And had a plate with two wedges of warm brie, multigrain Wheat Thins crackers, and a bunch of red grapes…
Happy belly!
Now I’m sip-sip-sipping away on my water trying to ensure I get a full 3 litres in today. Being so cold, the water and I aren’t getting along but I feel so much better when I’m properly hydrated. I think after dinner I’ll switch up to a couple of mugs of peppermint tea to help the hydration cause for today.

You people from BC...I WISH that -14 for too cold for me (well no I don't, but you know what I mean!) - I would love to relocate to BC one day!!!
All this brie love...I am going to have to get some!! (Or use up the huge half a wheel we still have the fridge!! OOOPS!)
I just moved back from the West Coast and I feel you on the weather thing. It's like my body forgot how cold it is here.
last week the windchill on the prairies was -38 to -40
I'm in sunny Florida. It's still sunny but the temperature was in the 30's (Fahrenheit)this morning. Brrr...
I am from Winnipeg, but after five years of living anywhere but Winnipeg, I have completely lost my edge when it comes to being cold. My body shuts down when it goes below -10!
Mmmm your lunch looks deeee-licious!
I moved to the West Coast from Winnipeg and totally can't handle the cold anymore.
I don't know...Lived on the East Coast all my life and I don't like the cold either. I've been bundling up and whining & complaining...Even though I know it will probably get worse.
mmm... I am loving my Peppermint Tea! Sorry it's so chilly!
