2010: Year of the Fit (+ Amazing Giveaway!)

I can not remember a time when I have ever actually made New Years Resolutions.  It has never been something I was interested in as generally I figure resolutions can be made any time of year.  No need for a special date to decide to do something good for yourself, right?  But this year I do have something of a personal goal…

You all already know that I try to eat healthy each and every day, and I strive to earn my indulgences. I have on days and off days just like everyone else, but at the end of the week it’s rare that I feel guilty or bad about anything I’ve eaten.

Fitness on the other hand, I have trouble with.  Not that I don’t get to the gym pretty regularly and all that, but I never seem to progress.  I plateau quite easily and I chalk that up to just not pushing myself beyond my self-perceived limits.  Like I said to Angie not too long ago, I might be thin but I’m not terribly fit.

Soooo…with that said… My resolution for 2010 is to take my fitness more seriously and really work to be a stronger, fitter, healthier me!

In no particular order, plans to get it done:

  • find a strength training workout appropriate to my body and my goals
  • change it up every 6-8 weeks so as to not bore my body or my mind
  • plan out a reasonable running plan, leading to running 5km without stopping
  • find a yoga class that not only fits my schedule but helps to stretch, tone, and relax me
  • keep it simple

In addition, I am always working towards finding balance in my diet.  I personally don’t believe in giving up anything unless it is truly unhealthy and detrimental to your own personal health or well-being.  However…I can always be doing a better job of achieving that balance

And I want to help you all too!  I’ve been working hard on finding some fun, healthy products to share as giveaways…and *drum roll please* today marks the first one!

Amazing_GrassThe lovely folks over at Amazing Grass have offered up a prize pack for one lucky reader.  You will receive the same awesome sample pack I received a few months ago!!  One of you gets to try Amazing Meal, SuperFood, Wheat Grass, and the Energy Bars…and of course, you will receive the much-coveted shaker cup!

Happy 2010!

2. Start going to yoga on a regular basis

My goal for this year is not about fitness (I am comfortable with where I am) but is on the nutrion side.....more than anything I would like to end evening snacking. Often I have calories left so I eat them. I need to better plan my day so that more calories are consumed earlier in the day.

I had a wicked comment all written out and it didn't post... Ugh...

My New Years resolution is top secret as no one knows that I have this affliction... I've been trying to quit smoking for 10+ years. GASP! I haven't been a "full-time" smoker in about 6 years but I'm one of those people who smokes when he has more than 2 drinks. I don't think I could do it without the support of a strong woman to support me (and yell at me, ha ha) but I'm I'm giving it all up though and I'm very happy to do so.

Good luck to everyone in their goals!

I have a couple of resolutions

1) to eat as much "real" food as possible- processed food and 100 calorie packs just don't do it for me anymore

2)get down to a weight where I can start to learn to run. I can do it now, but it's better for my body if I weigh less

3) set a healthy example for my Daughter

Maybe if you work with a personal trainer for just a couple of sessions you will get a workout specific to you. Good luck with your resolutions!

My new years resolutions was to get fit and healthy! I joined the x-weighted challenge and hoping to lose 69lbs in 6months! I've also been wanting to try amazing grass, everyone in blogland seems to be going crazy over it!

My resolve is a word, more than a set of actions - to live intentionally.

I wrote about it at the start of January: http://anthimeria.com/2010/01/05/intentional/

My NYR is to get fit in a few ways:

1. Physically - focus on losing weight to get healthy, not thin. To be good to my heart and my knees, 50 pounds has gotta go. I am doing this by taking new classes at the studio, plus going to the old ones I started in October. I am also run/walking a couple of days a week and planning meals.

2. Mentally - blogging, reading books and blogs about health and fitness. Learning to deal with drama before it becomes major drama.

3. Financially - I am trying to get out of the evil student loan/moved across country and have no job hole. I am a great spender, but a not so good saver. I am aiming to pay off my debts by at least 50% over 2010, if not more.

Total side note: I would sell my left buttock for that shaker cup. I wish they sold them here!

My resolution is to get back into running. I have been saying it for a couple of months now, but needed the New Year for a fresh start, apparently!

It's going slow, but it's going! :)

Lauren said...

I'm working on trying to find some peace in 2010. I want to learn to slow down and relax and enjoy the ride without getting too caught up in my own brain.

Anonymous said...

My main resolution was to continue doing what I'm doing with diet and exercise. Some of my others include getting to bed earlier, reading more, and drinking less Diet Coke!

Amber said...

My biggest, most important fitness goal for 2010 is run a full marathon in the Fall!

Also, check out "The New Rules of Lifting for Women" I'm going to review it on my blog tomorrow but it's a GREAT book r.e. strength training with lots of valuable info!

Great giveaway, btw. I've been dying to try Amazing Grass!

I just found your blog (and the giveaway) through Twitter. I definitely plan on following from this point.

My resolution for 2010 is to "Get Happy". Every month I am breaking it down into smaller goals. January includes getting active, taking more time for myself, and getting involved in the blogosphere and in my community a bit more.

My 2010 goal is to become a certified personal trainer (going for my course on February 13-21st)

My 2010 resolution is to be a "me advocate." I have a tendency to sacrifice healthy eating, gym time, and sleep in order to live up to other people's expectations. 2010 is the year I find balance.

Hopefully it is also the year I try Amazing Grass...especially in the shaker cup. I imagine it tastes better out of the cup. :)

My big goal is to run Around The Bay, a 30KM road race in Hamilton, ON at the end of March. It'll be the furthest I've ever run and I'm so scared! To train, I've signed up with a full marathon clinic to have others to run the long distances with.

I'm also working on incorporating some strength, yoga, and getting on my bike trainer this winter to prep me for the 50KM Becel Ride For Heart.

I wish you success on meeting your goals!

Unknown said...

my goal is to simply get back into a regular exercise routine, and not beat myself up....I'm too hard on myself.

Unknown said...

Hi Jaime! My resolution is to VISIT more! Go out and see friends and visit! Nobody visits anymore...I'm a gonna!

Heather said...

My resoulution is two part. A) Try not to put so much additional stress on myself because of things I have no control over and B) To focus on de-stressing effectively (i.e. without booze/junk food)and quickly when life throws a curve ball my way :)

Susan said...

"Keep it simple"

Love it. That alone tells me you'll have no problem following through on your goals. 2010 is gonna be a great one for you ;)

I came up with a few fitness goals as well, but my most important one is to "Live life." Sounds general, but I want to embark on more adventures and take more risks. Break out of the monotonous ruts I have a tendency to get myself into...

Ingmarie said...

Im trying to SIMPLIFY- my recipes, my house and my social calendar. Less is absolutly more this year for me. Getting things done ahead of time instead of last minute and learning to appreciate what i have in this moment instead of always focusing on the future.

My goals for 2010 are: (1) to train and run Philly's Broad Street Run in May. It's 10 miles, which will be my longest distance ever! I don't want the run to be 10 miles of agony, so I really want to train well for it. (2) Keep incorporating yoga into my life.

Good luck on your goals, everyone!

Mmmmm... would love to try Amazing Grass!!! So... this year's resolution is to treat myself well. This means - take care of my skin, eat foods that are healthy, move more - in general, live healthy :)

I am not a veggie eater. Unless it's green beans, corn or potatoes, I probably won't eat it. So in 2010, I have promised myself to try at least 2 new veggies each month. I may not like them but at least I'm trying them. And if I don't like them the first time I will find a new way to prepare them and try again.

For 2010 I plan on getting healthier. Eating better food for me, exercising, and losing weight.

My goal is run. Run outside, run on a treadmill, run in a marathon.... I just want to start running. My goal is also to reach my goal weight.

Carol said...

My goal for 2010 is to run a full marathon in 5.5 hours or less. I did my first last year in 6.5, so it would be sweet to really amp things up and take a whole hour off the run. Marathon training clinic started last week, to help me acheive this goal, and I'm narrowing down marathons towards the end of May.
Cool blog, by the way.

I'm moving toward becoming vegan, which is huge for me. It means giving up all my fears and dogma about my eating habits.

I'm all about growing up this year. Mentally and spiritually.

This is going to be a fabulous new year and will usher in many more.
