Silly cold has totally killed my plans for “balance” for this trip! I really didn’t want to majorly compromise on indulgent holiday eating so the plan for this year was EXERCISE. Not that food would be a free-for-all because that’s just not my style anymore, but I was hoping to keep things levelled out with portion control and a few extra holiday workouts.
My cold has other plans.
Kinda tough to fit in an outdoor run while wheezing up a lung. I can’t even do a proper yoga session because anything slightly inverted or hanging causes my head to pound.
I guess I’ll survive with some basic crunches and the hope that this will pass quickly. Until then I’m trying to eat mindfully…having said that though, some mother/daughter visit traditions may be working against me. :)
Monday was pretty good throughout the main part of the day. (Most photos are brought to you by my Blackberry as I forgot my camera at the Gingerbread party…)
I was still at Tiff’s and still working so I had simple breakfast of Red River cereal. Warmed the tummy.
Cooked with 1/2 banana and topped with a spoonful of peanut butter. Deeeeelish.
With tea, green juice, and a couple of cookies for mid-morning snack…
For lunch I met Tiff next door at Buon Amici’s for a going away sammich. I opted for the ham panino…which is essentially a ham and cheese sandwich on a yummy bun…
With a few rippled chips…
And a small 1% vanilla latte…
Later in the day I connected with Ingmarie and Alex for a ride to my Mom’s house in Nanaimo. I snacked on the second half of my banana and some water before the car trip.
As per our tradition, Mom and I ordered up some Chinese take-out for dinner. We do this almost every time I’m home and we almost always order from the same place. Unfortunately it seems as though the restaurant has changed hands again and this time they’ve changed their recipes…and not for the good.
I hate when I splurge on something and then it doesn’t live up to expectations. Oh well. $50 worth of take-out wasn’t going to waste so we ate up.
Although we did throw out the Almond Chicken. It was completely inedible. Boooooo. (the universe must have telling us we didn’t need deep fried battered chicken!!!)
My cold hit hard that night so we finished dinner with a light treat of homemade peppermint marshmallows that Ingmarie made and then I promptly hit the sack.
I was exhausted but slept terribly. I think I was actually excited to get out of bed when my alarm went off just so I could get away from that awful sleep. Bugger. I need some sort of workout to tire my body out naturally…and to help kick the stuffed sinuses!
How is everyone making out with your holiday temptations?

I'm loving the take out!
I like that you and your mom have your "to do together" things
I felt like that a couple of weeks ago, my cold literally kicked me. I found though that long slow walks on the treadmill were helpful, gave me that moved feeling and still left me with enough energy to make it through the day. (my walks were 50 mins at 4mph)
so far I've been doing fine with teh holiday temptations but I've been at work everyday so its only the evening where the challenge has kicked in, today though is 1/2 work day and the full on holiday food gremlins will be arriving this aft..
Booooo to bad Chinese food!
I haven't been doing badly with the Christmas temptations. If I eat them, I try to keep in mind that they are calorie laden and have light lunches, dinners, etc. For example, yesterday I had these lovely Maple Spiced Walnuts that I made. For breakfast. That's it, that's all. Hey, walnuts are healthy, right? :)
Hope you feel better soon. Merry Christmas!
Your whole trip home looks wonderful so far (minus the whole cold/flu thing.) Hope you and your Mom have a Merry Christmas!
Hope that your cold gets better soon, but it still looks like you are having a blast on your holiday!
I'm in the same boat. Ended up coming down with the flu so I haven't been able to workout, but yet have maintained my appetite. Gah! Will be lots of catch up work to do next week! Merry Christmas :)
